MAYOR GILLINGHAM - PLEASE LISTEN TO OUR COMMUNITY AND SMALL BUSINESSES!
Since December 12th, 2025, we have received NO communication from Winnipeg Transit or the mayor regarding the proposed bus stop relocation on Academy Road.
Construction began October 5th, yet minimal progress has been made. Once completed, the city intends to proceed with relocating a bus stop directly infront of five small businesses, eliminating ALL storefront parking and delivery access.
WHY??
The existing bus stop has served the community for over 35 years without known issues or negatively impacting businesses. Moving it comes at taxpayers expense, despite strong community opposition.
The city repeatedly references its Transit Master Plan, yet we believe important guidelines including minimum sidewalk widths, are being overlooked.
Over 1,000 people have signed our petition opposing this move. River Heights residences and business owners deserve answers, not silence.
For nearly a year, we have asked Mayor Gillingham for a reasonable explanation. We are still waiting!!
Mayor Gillingham, please do the right thing. Listen to your community, protect our five small businesses and KEEP THE BUS STOPS WHERE IT HAS BEEN FOR OVER 35 YEARS!
