Spend a day with me in my “office” 🌿

These are just a few highlights, because if you know me, you know I’m terrible at taking photos — I get focused on the task and forget to capture the moment.

Aside from the work you see here, there are emails, phone calls, crew organization, safety meetings, deliveries, material returns, scheduling, problem-solving… and everything in between.

Most days start around 6:00–6:30am and I don’t usually get back until around 7pm.

A full office day is usually something I catch up on over the weekend, but today was one of those much-needed catch-up days.

It truly is a privilege to work hard, stay busy, and serve our community.

I’m a pretty private person, but here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at the owner ☺️

Dead tree? No problem.

We have access to mature trees and the proper equipment to replace yours safely and efficiently.

Considering evergreen or deciduous? We can help with both.

And what about the base — mulch or rock?

Mulch is often a great option around new trees because it helps retain moisture, keeps the roots cooler through the Okanagan heat, and reduces weeds. Rock looks clean and low-maintenance, but it can hold more heat.

Tight spot and want less maintenance?

We got you covered. This past week, we reshaped this backyard by gaining approximately 6’ of usable space with two rock walls, plus another area created for a swim spa.

We also created a low-maintenance, kid- and dog-friendly backyard for these new homeowners.

Privacy panels were added for a more private feel, and once the shed is moved, a beautiful paver pad will be installed to finish off the space.

When you’ve been working in horticulture for almost 10 years, travelling starts to look a little different — because let’s be honest, I’m mostly looking at the landscaping and all the plants.

Spending a weekend in Vancouver in the Spring always brings me so much joy. The gardens, the blooms, the ocean.

One of my all-time favourites is the Japanese Camellia: beautiful, and absolutely covered in blooms this time of year.

And then there’s this funky little guy — the Monkey Puzzle Tree.

The Monkey Puzzle Tree is such a unique evergreen. Its stiff, spiky branches grow in these almost prehistoric-looking layers, giving it a bold architectural shape. It’s one of those plants you can’t help but stop and look at because it feels so different from everything around it.

Spring in Vancouver is always a good reminder of why I love horticulture so much.
