Swipe through: 4 signs your gutters might be leaking or overflowing 👀
Every one of these before and afters started with a warning sign that was visible from the ground.
1. Plants growing in your gutters. Yes, really. If seeds and soil have built up enough to grow a garden, water has nowhere to go and your gutters are holding weight they weren't designed for.
2. Pine needles and debris on the roof. On this terracotta roof, needles were packed in and feeding straight into the gutters below. Clogs start here, and they're easy to spot from the yard.
3. Stains on the outside of the gutter. Streaks like these mean water has been spilling over the edge for a long time. If you notice them, watch what the gutter does in the next rain. Water pouring over the side instead of down the downspout is your cue to get it checked.
4. Moss and algae on the stucco and gutter. Constant moisture is what grows this stuff. When it shows up on the wall or along the outside of the gutter, it often points to a leak or overflow nearby.
One more to check: after a heavy rain, look at the ground along your foundation. Pooling water there means your gutters aren't carrying it away like they should.
