Are you a homeowner? Have you and your family lived in the same home for years? Then maybe its time for you to think about cleaning your air ducts. This process is important to your well being, but what is air duct cleaning?
The process of cleaning air ducts refers to more than just removing the dust and dirt that builds up inside the supply and return air ducts. It can also include the components that never come to mind like: The registers, drain pans, fan motor, heating and cooling coils, and a few other important pieces that circulate your air. Without proper installation or maintained care and operation, these components can easily build up dust, dirt, grime, pollen, pet hair, and even growths such as mold in damp environments. There can be significant health risks when not taken care of.
Not every house needs a cleaning, so how will you know when your air ducts need cleaning? Each and every home eventually need their air ducts cleaned. Consider taking the time to do a visual inspection of the inside of the air ducts and check for deposits of unwanted build up of dirt or mold. Pay no attention to any dirt that may have built up on the grates, this can produce misleading information as it can easily be removed with a vacuum cleaner and wash cloth. You may also want to consider cleaning them if your home is aged or old, as it has had plenty of time for build up.
When hiring a service provider, be sure that they have followed the proper duct cleaning procedure or it can cause new and different problems. Without proper equipment and procedure the cleaning crew can release even more contaminants into your home, further reducing the air quality of your home. This can lead to sickness or allergic reactions. Due to the inability to perform a visual inspection on many parts of the heating system, ask your professional to show you any and all existing mold. Any insulated air ducts should also have their insulation replaced provided wet, moldy, or looks as though it should be replaced. Last but not least, check for vermin infestation from rodents or bugs.
Remember that air duct cleaning prevents health problems. Consult a professional about where you need to clean your air ducts, and give your family clean and flowing air they need.
