Now that the 1928 Chevrolet is done and back home, we aren’t slowing down 💪💪

’80 Z28 PROGRESS UPDATE

This one is really starting to come together!

We’ve got the body and front clip blocked out on the first round of primer, and we’ve been working away on the doors.

On the passenger door, we rebuilt part of the bottom lip, got it properly epoxied, then skimmed the outer door skin with filler and blocked it out. It’s now ready for its first round of high-build primer.

Before we move forward, we gave the doors one last fit on the car to make sure everything is sitting and lining up exactly like it should. 👌

Once the doors are finished, primed and blocked, the whole car will be getting its final primer. Hopefully, before too long, we’ll finally get to see this Z28 all one colour and back together again! 🔥

This car has come a LONG way. From having a tree fall on it, to replacing the entire roof, stripping the whole car down to bare metal, and working our way back up from there — there’s been a lot of hours and a lot of work invested into bringing this one back.

But that’s what makes these projects worth it.

Slowly but surely, this Z28 is coming back to life. 🏁

Well… it’s time to say goodbye to the ’28 Chev. 🥲

It’s been a long road with this one — full of ups, downs, challenges, and plenty of long hours. And as most big projects go, somewhere along the way you end up getting a little attached.

When you’re a car guy, you don’t just work on these old vehicles… you become part of their story. You put countless hours, energy, and a whole lot of yourself into bringing them back to life. So when the day finally comes to hand the keys back to the owner, it’s definitely a little bittersweet.

But this car is more than just a beautiful old Chev. It has a pretty incredible family history behind it.

The owner shared some old photos with me from way back in the late ’80s, when he and his dad first picked the car up. As you can see in the pictures, they were elbows-deep into rebuilding it, working together to bring the car back to the vision they had at the time.

Then, as life tends to do, things changed. Years passed, life happened, and the car was sold, eventually the opportunity came for him to get the car back.

This time, the vision was different.

It wasn’t just about building a cool ’28 Chev anymore. It was about building something that would pay tribute to his father and the history they shared with this car.

That makes being a part of a project like this pretty special.

We’re incredibly grateful that Rustology Restorations got the opportunity to be a small part of this car’s journey. Seeing it go from years of history, repairs, and bare metal to the finished car you see today has been one hell of a ride.

It’s a beautiful car with an even better story — and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this old rig.

The folks over at Speedy Glass did an absolutely amazing job on this old ’28 Chev!

I sent it over to them on kind of a last-minute rush job, and they were able to take it on, accommodate us, and get it knocked out!!

Big thanks to the crew at Speedy Glass! 🍻

Now she’s back at the shop, and it’s time for me to get busy!

Next up: sanding, prepping, and getting this old girl ready for some paint! 🔥
