What do you think "Habit Stacking" Is?
If you’ve ever checked work emails while pacing on the treadmill or folded laundry while caught up on a phone call and thought, "Look at me, habit stacking!" That’s simply multitasking but, many confuse the 2.
Here is the quick difference between the two:
🔀 Multitasking = Doing things SIMULTANEOUSLY
"WHILE I walk on the treadmill, I will catch up on emails."
You are overlapping two tasks at the exact same time. Great for clearing small tasks, but it can drain your brain power fast if both require focus. (Generally not advisable for people with ADHD)
🔗 Habit Stacking = Doing things SEQUENTIALLY
"AFTER I get off the treadmill, I will drink a full glass of water."
You aren't doing them at the same time. Instead, you use an established daily habit as the automatic trigger for a new one. One domino knocks down the next! It's usually used to develop or build new/better habits
While multitasking is designed to compress time, habit stacking is designed to overcome friction and forgetfulness. (Great for the hdhd brain)
