Rent-a-What..!!!!!!!!
Allow me to address the backlash of opinion regarding our use of the home-service, name “Rent-a-Wife”. The name “Rent-a-Wife” was chosen by my mother, Judith Blackman, a feminist, in 1980 purposely, to reflect the incalculable value that women give in the home. Her belief’s in those times, were that the work women did in the home was undervalued and underpaid; she wanted to elevate the task’s of the homemaker and legitimize work performed to that of a salaried position; thus lending dignity ,rather than degrading, housework.!!!!!!
Originating with the vision of the sole entrepreneur, Ms Blackman's idea was to provide services to help people make their homes a place of comfort where they can rest and relax.
Following an epiphany by my mother, she chose the name Rent-a-Wife to succinctly encompass the role of a woman in the home; namely that of a surrogate mother. A service provided by women for women of that of a cook, cleaner, shopper, organizer of moves, do minor repairs or and walk the kids home from school for a fee. From this, the name “Rent-a-Wife” was born.
Having wholeheartedly embracing my mother's feminist vision during the course of my nearly 30-year career in the home services business, I would have hoped that there would have been more support given to my mission to deliver services inside the home, thus freeing up the consumer to engage in their own pursuits.
While the tongue-in-cheek use of the name “Rent-a-Wife” has garnered much public attention over the years, I am proud to say that I have a solid base of satisfied and loyal clients that recognize the value of having a cost-effective service that not only addresses cleaning issues, but organizational requirements in a timely manner as well. My belief is that “Every working person needs a wife” is supported by years of positive and grateful feedback from a broad range of customers. Can we now all agree that our aim to provide services for the betterment of both the consumer and the service provider is indeed a worthwhile and necessary end?
