Smell rotten eggs? 🚨 You may have a gas leak!

Fortis says you should shut off your gas if you know how , leave the area and call a gas fitter or Fortis directly.

Fortis will come out and find the leak and shut off your gas if they find a leak and it’s bad enough. Then you need to call a certified gas fitter to make repairs.

Not all gas fitters are equal! At Dynasty we’re class A gas fitters. That’s the high level of training in the field.

Class A gas fitters are the masters of gas fitting and the longer they’ve been an A fitter the more knowledgeable they are still, as we never stop learning new things.

Our A gas fitter has been servicing homes, apartment buildings and commercial properties for more than 26 years! That makes him one of the most experienced and technically qualified people in the field, especially in the lower mainland area!

Another week of plumbing is in the books! It seems this week was filled with fixing jobs other plumbers or gas fitters did poorly. I wish I could say this is rare but it’s not.

Many customers only see the price when picking a contractor.

They often don’t understand why one contractor may be significantly cheaper than another resulting in them just going with the cheapest option.

This is usually a mistake because what they don’t understand is that the quality of the job being done for the lower price is also likely to be far lower. Here’s a couple examples:

This week we replaced a toilet in a retirement village in Cloverdale. On this one the original installer miss placed the toilet fl**ge during original construction leaving the building with a 10” rough in space when it should be 12” minimum.

Then the original plumber decided to install the 12” rough in toilet he had anyway even though it didn’t fit properly. This resulted in a very poor install that ultimately failed. Rather then getting a special 10” rough in toilet, which would have cost more, he installed the over sized toilet, very poorly, in a spot that was too small for it. This left the toilet cockeyed and pinched between the wall and fl**ge and sitting an inch up in the air as it didn’t have the required room to sit flush on the floor. Then he siliconed it in place with an inch of silicone.

Unsurprisingly this left the toilet loose and caused it to leak over time.

We had to bring in a special toilet that comes with the required 10” rough in. Then we properly installed it and tested it to be ok and leak free.

Then a few days later we found a gas line which had its 2 psi to inches gas regulator plugged off with silicone plus they installed a gas flex connector on the high 2 psi gas line against code instead of on the low pressure .5 psi side of the gas regulator as is required. This means the gas flex connector was over pressurized by 4 times its maximum allowable gas pressure. This could have resulted in a gas line rupture which could have ended very badly!

In the end we had to completely rebuild the gas line properly. We also added the required gas line drip legs to protect the boiler’s gas valve.

These issues were found within days of each other and in the same areas . Unfortunately we find these kinds of issues regularly as a lot of contractors are using under trained staff to do jobs.

Moral of the story is be very careful who you hire or you could end up paying to do the job twice, all in a bid to save money!

This week, Dynasty responded to a notable service call at a five-year-old townhouse complex featuring an outdoor pool and a clubhouse fire pit. The complex had struggled with a persistent issue - the fire pit had been non-functional since its first year of operation. Uncertain of the cause, the management reached out for assistance, prompting the deployment of our highly skilled Class A gas fitter. With the highest level of industry training, these experts possess unparalleled expertise in handling appliances of varying sizes with ease, capable of working on all units regardless of complexity or scale.

In this case we discovered the out door electrical box underneath the fire pit had water ingress, which prevented the power from reaching the outlet as it was shorting out. We were able to test the fire pit with the temporary use of an extension cord and everything is working normally with power restored. An electrician was dispatched to solve the problem and the fire pit will be restored with power soon!
