One of the strangest requests I ever received as a cleaner…

A client once asked me to sprinkle baby powder through the vents of a fan.

Yes… you read that right. 😄

At first I thought, “Why would anyone do that?”

Then they explained that years ago someone had told them it would make the house smell fresh whenever the fan was running.

I’ve had some unusual requests over the years, and while I can’t say that one became part of my regular cleaning routine, it definitely made me smile.

After years in this business, I’ve learned that every home has its own routines, traditions, and little quirks. That’s one of the things that keeps this job interesting.

Have you ever wondered why people clean before the cleaner comes?

Most people think it’s strange, but after years in this industry, I’ve found there are usually two reasons.

1. They tidy up.
They pick clothes up off the floor, put the dishes in the dishwasher, start a load of laundry, and clear the clutter. That helps me get to the actual cleaning instead of spending the whole visit organizing.

2. They’re embarrassed.
They worry I’ll judge their house, their habits, or their situation.

Here’s the little secret I wish everyone knew…

A good cleaner isn’t there to judge you.

We’re there to help.

We’ve seen busy families, people working two jobs, seniors who can’t do what they used to, parents with little ones, people recovering from illness, and people who are simply overwhelmed.

And here’s another secret…

Most cleaners have their own messy homes sometimes too.

You just don’t see them.

Life gets busy for all of us.

So if you’ve ever apologized to a cleaner because your house wasn’t “clean enough,” please know this:

I’d much rather you let me help than spend hours stressing over what I might think.

Everyone deserves a little grace. 💜
