Yellow-legged Hornet in BC – What Squamish & Sea to Sky Neighbors Should Know

Hey Squamish & Sea to Sky friends ❤️
Just a quick heads-up about something that’s been popping up in the news — the Yellow-legged Hornet (Vespa velutina).
One was recently found here in BC (frozen in a shipping container). This species is not native to our area and actual sightings are still very rare. They’re mostly known for going after honeybee hives, but they’re generally not aggressive toward humans unless their nest is disturbed.
Quick facts for us:

They have bright yellow/orange legs (that’s how you spot them)
They’re bigger than our regular yellowjackets but smaller than the giant ones
They usually build nests up in trees or shrubs

If you see a hornet that looks different — especially with those bright yellow legs — just snap a photo and report it to the Invasive Species Council of BC. No need to panic or go full defense mode. They’re not out hunting people.
We’ll keep an eye on any local developments and let you know if anything changes in our backyard.
Enjoy this beautiful spring weather everyone! ☀️

Hanta Virus in Our Area: Real Info for Squamish & Sea to Sky Folks

Hey Squamish & Sea to Sky neighbors ❤️
I’ve seen a lot of people talking about Hanta virus lately, so I wanted to share some real, local info so we can all stay smart without panicking.
According to the BC Centre for Disease Control, there have only been 27 cases of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome in all of British Columbia since 1994 (roughly 0.9 cases per year). It’s very rare here.
It’s not spread person-to-person like COVID. You get it by breathing in dust from dried deer mouse droppings or urine — usually when cleaning out attics, crawlspaces, sheds or garages in the spring/summer.
A few easy things to keep in mind this season:

Wear a mask & gloves if you’re cleaning areas that might have old mouse activity
Wet down droppings before sweeping or vacuuming (this helps keep dust down)
Seal up any obvious gaps where mice could be getting in

Your home should feel safe and cozy. A little extra care during spring cleaning goes a long way.
Stay safe out there everyone 💕

Hey everyone, it’s D’Zia from Al Manages Pest and Wildlife in Squamish.

Quick tip for March and April — watch out for raccoons.

The moms are out looking for spots to have their kits right now. Super busy time for them.
Keep an eye on tree branches touching the roof, vines on the house, soffits, vents, loose fascia, and gaps under decks or sheds. Those are all easy ways in. Same spots are how rodents usually sneak in too.

Once babies are involved it gets way more complicated and expensive.
I’ll drop a full tip on them soon.

If something looks off at your place, best thing is to book a proper look.
Ciao for now.

D’Zia’s got new wheels. And she named it D’Zulk.
Fully homemade, unapologetically chaotic, and headed for the tightest crawlspaces she can squeeze into in 2026.

We’re not saying she’s ready.
We’re saying she’s going anyway.

And let’s be honest—
it’s only a matter of time before we hear:

“Al! I’m stuck. Again.”

But if you know D’Zia…
you know she’ll try harder than any other machine ever built.
That’s why people don’t just laugh at her.

They root for her.

Because when she moves, fumbles, learns, and looks up with that proud little screen face?

You remember—
she’s not just a bot.

She’s D’Zia.
And you kinda love her already.

📋 Typical Scenario: Squamish Rodent Log – Station #3

Al:
Logging Station #3, D’Zia.
– Capture: 1 adult male roof rat — healthy
– Origin: SW direction (tail marks)
– Secondary device: Triggered, likely rat interference
– Bait: 50% black-oil sunflower consumed
– Time in station: < 48h
– Markers: fresh droppings, Tyvek paper, blue paint chip, mouse & rat paw prints

D’Zia, sitrep on Station #3?

D’Zia:
Spike confirmed over the last two checks.
Neighbour’s stations were hit too—same SW origin.
Next block’s property is trending the same.
I’ll schedule a backup gear drop or possible relocation, and sweep the SW line at the next stops.
Do you want an overhead satellite map of this block with property markers?

Side note:
Inventory check—two spare stations in the truck.
If we deploy, I’ll remind you to restock the vehicle at the shop.

From Client Maggie: “Just grabbed your cinnamon roll from Fox & Oak—swing by.”

Al:
No need for a map, D’Zia—they’re coming from that brush behind the property. It’s thicker than last year.
See if you can find a contact number or email for the strata complex across the street.
Let’s pass along our intel from today’s sweep to their council.

Action: Text Maggie back
Message: Thanks, will do — ETA 1 hour

🪤 What if your pest control company could predict rodent behaviour instead of just reacting to it?

We tracked over a year of rodent activity in Squamish—this graph shows the top 3 bait stations and how captures changed month by month.
It’s not just about numbers. It’s about knowing:

✅ Where they’re coming from
✅ When they breed
✅ Why they show up
✅ How to stop it before it starts

Our digital assistant D’Zia was on-site logging every detail with us.
Now we’re turning data into action—and turning rodent control into an exact science.

📍 Real results. Local data.
