Have you ever paid attention to the color of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe of your car? While this might sound odd, the color of your exhaust can give you information on how your vehicle is running and whether it needs attention. Exhaust is sometimes an easy indicator of car health.
1. White smoke:
The presence of water in the combustion chamber will create a whitish exhaust. One common cause of this is a broken or blown head gasket, which allows engine coolant/water to seep into your pistons, creating a white smoke with a noticeable odor.
2. Blue smoke:
This typically occurs when some engine oil is getting burned off. Worn or damaged piston rings can allow oil to enter the combustion chamber, creating smoke with a bluish tinge. This problem may be visible at startup but could disappear as your engine warms up.
3. Black smoke:
Black exhaust smoke usually occurs when there is incomplete combustion of your fuel/air mixture. This could be related to problems with the quality of your gas, engine airflow problems, or issues with your spark plugs and/or ignition coils.
4. 3. Grey Smoke:
Grey smoke in cars typically occurs from too much oil, a cracked PCV valve, or a transmission fluid leak. Incomplete combustion can occasionally happen as a result of a defective or failed turbocharger. Transmission fluid may potentially be causing grey smoke to appear.
If you see any of these exhaust colors, your engine needs attention. Before you spend a lot going to a mechanic or having work done on your engine, browse our catalog and identify the products that can take care of your issue.

Over the weekend, we had three cars come in for repairs:
Chevrolet Equinox – replacement of the gasket in the exhaust pipe. It took some effort to drill out the factory bolt at the joint, as the bolt head had been welded in place. During the operation of the car, one of the two mounting bolts broke, damaging the gasket, and some exhaust gases started escaping past the muffler, resulting in a loud noise while driving.

Dodge Caravan – replacement of the metal pipe in the cooling system. The issue is that, in the lower part of the engine compartment, the factory-installed metal pipe corrodes over time due to exposure to water, moisture, and salt from winter roads. This causes it to deteriorate, leading to coolant loss and, consequently, engine overheating. Therefore, keep an eye on the condition of various hoses and pipes under the hood. They're not expensive, but they can cause a lot of trouble if not maintained.

Mazda 3 – installation of a coolant system heating block. This one is quite simple, but it's located far and deep under the exhaust manifold. But you’ll figure it out on your own.

Today we had two clients: replacing a Nissan turn signal switch and replacing a front right drive boot. In principle, nothing new, everything is as usual and does not require comments. The Hyundai owner arrived on time for the replacement and did not wait for the CV joint to be replaced, for which we congratulate him! Enjoy a photo report of our work.

Today, we replaced the spark plugs on a 2009 Mercedes-Benz C-230 4MATIC. The client complained about engine oil consumption. After removing all the spark plugs, we identified the cause of the consumption and the location of the problem. In the 4th and 5th cylinders, the spark plugs were covered in oil combustion residues, which is obviously due to the rings being stuck, leading to increased oil consumption. The main point is that you need to monitor your engine just like your health: regularly change the oil and maintenance items. Typically, oil changes should be performed every 10,000 km or based on engine hours, because in big cities, cars spend more time in traffic than moving, and the engine runs during that time.
