One of the biggest mistakes people make when planning a new pool is underestimating the full cost. We always try to give ballpark numbers on the higher side so there are fewer surprises later, but things can change.

It’s better to have a realistic budget from the start than to be caught off guard halfway through the project.

Built this pool in 2013. 13 years later, we came back to give it a refresh. New liner, new skimmer, some rust repair, and now it’s looking good as new.

Swipe through to see the before, during, and after.

Got this pool we built last year in Greenbryre up and running last week.

We built it later in the summer, so it never got fully circulated before winter. Now the automation is hooked up, heat is on, salt system is reading, and it’s producing chlorine.

After a good clean, they’ll be set to enjoy it for the whole summer.

Watch to the end to see the transformation from the build last year to up and running now.

How do you know when it’s time to replace your liner?

A lot of patches, wrinkles that have developed over time, or issues with the liner holding water can all be signs it’s time to start considering it.

Fading can happen naturally over time, but on its own, it’s usually more cosmetic than anything. If the liner is still holding water and you’re happy with how it looks, you’re usually fine.

Losing water can sometimes point to the liner, but it could also be a plumbing issue or another leak, so it’s something you’d want to have checked properly first.

Wrinkles that show up right after your pool was built or immediately after a new liner was installed are a different story. In most cases, that points to an issue with the installation.

The liners we install typically last around 12–15 years with proper care. But we’ve also had liners last 20+ years.

That being said, the longer you wait, the more it can cost to replace down the road, so sometimes it’s better to just do it every 10-12 years.

This is the first new liner of 2026 we installed last week. We built the Rennie’s pool in the early 2000s and replaced the liner once already around 2013/2014. After another good run, it was time for a refresh.

Jim and his family have been loyal Brightwater customers for many years, and it’s always nice getting to come back, help with the pool over the years, and now make it look brand new again.

Big shoutout to Jim for getting on camera and sharing a bit about his experience with Brightwater Pools.

Best part of the job… other than building the pools. Flying the drone and seeing the whole yard transformation from above. Enjoy some drone highlights. More coming this summer, stay tuned.

You may have seen some our liner install videos on here before, but here’s a closer look at how the liner actually stays in place.

The top edge of the liner has a bead that hooks into the liner retainer. Once the liner is set, the vacuum pulls it tight, and the weight of the water helps lock everything into place.

Pretty simple system, but it’s one of those small details that matters a lot during a liner install.

How long does it take to build a steel wall vinyl liner pool?

It typically takes 5-7 working days. Dig day, walls up, concrete, pool pad, liner, then fill. Usually it’s done within a week if everything goes smooth and the weather holds up.
