💙 INVISIBLE DISABILITIES WEEK | October 18–24
Who says you have to build your business the conventional way?
I'm Christy, owner of A1 Spar-Klean, and I live with multiple invisible disabilities.
But here's something I'm actually proud of: I didn't just build a business and try to squeeze myself into it. I designed my business around my disabilities.
I had to learn what works for me, what doesn't, where I need to adapt, and how to build a business that allows me to do the work I love without pretending my limitations don't exist.
That means planning differently. Finding workable solutions. Knowing when I can push forward and when I need to adjust. And accepting that sometimes the smartest way to get something done is not necessarily the most conventional way.
Running a business with invisible disabilities comes with challenges that other people may never see. But it also means learning to be resourceful, adaptable, and creative in ways you might never have expected.
I don't hide my disabilities, and I don't believe I should have to.
They're part of my reality, but they don't define the entirety of who I am or what I'm capable of. I've built a business that works with my reality, and I'm proud of that.
Because accessibility and accommodation aren't just things we should think about in workplaces owned by someone else. Sometimes, we're the ones who have to create those accommodations for ourselves.
You don't have to fit yourself into the mould. Sometimes you build a different mould.
This Invisible Disabilities Week, here's to everyone finding their own way — employees, entrepreneurs, business owners, and everyone working behind the scenes to make life work for them.
You don't have to do it the conventional way to do it well. 💙
