Mancuso's Fascinating Facts!

Did you know that dog urine can soak through your carpet and down into the carpet backing or even the underpad? Once it's in the backing, the proper and most effective way to remove it is to lift the carpet, roll it back and actually clean the carpet backing in the affected areas (as well as cleaning the carpet face, of course). The affected piece of underpad will need to be cut out and replaced, and the subfloor should be inspected as well.

Mancuso's Fascinating Facts!

Did you know the some area rugs are made from textiles that don't clean well? For example some have a border made from cotton that might not have been pre-shrunk, so the rug might not lay flat after it's been cleaned. Or the dye in that cotton might not be colourfast, so the border might look worn and faded after cleaning. Best advice: READ THE TAG on the back of the rug. Mancuso's Fascinating Facts!

Did you know that baking soda is great for treating spills in your carpet or area rug? Not only does it soak up liquid, it also neutralizes any acid present. You'd be surprised how many liquids have acid in them! It's usually the acid in the pop or coffee or wine, or even the dog urine or the vomit, that makes the carpet think it's being re-dyed. So by neutralizing the acid, you can reduce or eliminate the staining that comes with a spill.

The WORST thing you can do is apply a spray-on detergent or a soap and scrub it in. This usually guarantees the stain will be permanent.

DID YOU KNOW that cut pile carpets can be vacuumed with a be**er bar or brush head attached, but berber or loop carpets should only be vacuumed with a brush head attachment and never with a be**er bar? Not only does the be**er bar do a poor job of vacuuming that style of carpet, it might damage the carpet as well.
