With spring in full swing, it’s time to break out the sports clothing! As the weather continues to warm up, the sweat will start to flow 🥵
Whether it’s your yoga pants from the gym, or your kids’ soccer clothes, these 5 tips are the BEST for helping keep your athleticwear fresh throughout the season:
👕 Turn Clothes Inside Out Before Washing
Odour‑causing sweat and bacteria live on the inside of your activewear. Washing them inside out exposes the dirtiest areas directly to water and detergent, giving you a deeper clean.
❄️ Wash in Cold Water
Cold water is gentler on synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, and spandex. It prevents fiber breakdown, protects elasticity, and is just as effective as hot water at removing the oils that trap odor.
🧸 Skip Fabric Softener
Fabric softener coats fibers with a residue that traps odor and impacts moisture‑wicking performance. It’s best to skip it for activewear!
🛑 Don’t Overstuff the Washer
Activewear needs room to move so detergent can reach every surface. Overloading the machine can lead to clothes coming out still smelling sweaty.
🌪️ Air Dry When Possible
High heat damages elastic, breaks down performance fibers, and bakes in any lingering odor. Air drying keeps your gear fresher longer and helps it maintain its shape and stretch. If possible, use an air-dry/air-fluff setting on your dryer, or hang your activewear on a drying rack.
