PSA from a professional house cleaner:

One thing youā€™ll never hear me say to a brand-new client is, ā€œWeā€™ll just do a basic maintenance cleaning.ā€

I donā€™t care if youā€™ve had a weekly cleaner for years. Unless Iā€™ve personally deep cleaned your home first, I wonā€™t offer a quick maintenance clean.

Hereā€™s why:

A maintenance cleaning is designed to maintain a home thatā€™s already been brought up to a deep-clean standard. It isnā€™t meant to remove months of built-up soap scum, grease, dust, hard water stains, or grime.

For example, you canā€™t expect a bathtub that hasnā€™t been thoroughly scrubbed in six months to look brand new after a maintenance wipe-down. Thatā€™s simply not what a maintenance cleaning is designed to accomplish.

Thereā€™s another reason, too. Unfortunately, some people book the least expensive service, then post photos of areas that werenā€™t included or paid for and claim the cleaner was ā€œlazyā€ or did a poor job. Thatā€™s unfair to both the client and the cleaner because expectations were never aligned from the beginning.

My goal is to leave your home looking the way I want my name attached to it. That means starting with a true deep clean, especially in high-traffic areas, so future maintenance visits actually maintain that level of cleanliness.

I truly believe this is one of the biggest sources of confusion in the cleaning industry. A maintenance cleaning maintains. A deep cleaning restores. Those are two very different servicesā€”and understanding that makes all the difference. ā¤ļø

The mental load no one talks about in cleaningā€¦

People think we just show up and wipe things down.

What they donā€™t see is the constant mental checklist running the entire time

Remembering every clientā€™s little preferences.
Which products they like.
Which rooms they want done a certain way.
Which trash cans get liners folded a specific way.
Which light switches, baseboards, or corners they always notice.
Itā€™s double checking everything because one missed spot can turn into a message later šŸ˜­

Itā€™s mentally mapping out the whole clean before you even walk through the door so you can stay on schedule while still being thorough.

Youā€™re not just cleaning houses all dayā€¦ Youā€™re managing time, details, expectations, and a nonstop mental checklist šŸ’Æ

That part is exhausting too.
