Tech Tip Tuesday with Big Yellow Truck!

Ever wonder what happens after everything goes down your drain? 🤔

When solids and liquids leave your home, they enter your septic tank through the incoming baffle, that PVC pipe you see coming into the tank. This pipe extends down to the middle of the tank and plays a key role in separating solids from liquids.

Here’s how it works:
🟤 Solids rise to the top, where helpful bacteria get to work breaking them down before they settle to the bottom.
💧 Liquids stay in the middle layer and eventually make their way out to the field for proper dispersal.

🧠 Tech Talk Tuesday: Let’s Talk Field Flushes

Did you know there are two different types of field flushes that help keep your septic system running at its best?

🔹 Maintenance Field Flush
This service is done during regular maintenance using your system’s pump. It helps clean out the field lines, removing buildup and keeping effluent dispersal balanced across the entire field.

🔹 Hydro Jetting Field Flush
This one’s a bit more heavy-duty. It’s used as a remedial fix for systems that are severely impacted or for systems that don’t have a pump. High-pressure water is used to clear the lines and restore flow.

No matter which service your system needs, the goal is the same — to make sure your dispersal field is working as designed so effluent water can be properly treated before it reaches the groundwater.

Your septic field is the life of your system and the most susceptible to failure. Field maintenance is just as important as tank maintenance. When solids build up, your field can become hydro-matted, stopping the flow of effluent and leading to system failure.

Routine inspections and maintenance can prevent this and help your system last for years to come.

The #1 issue we see with septic systems? Lack of regular maintenance.

Just because someone says you can wait 5 years between pump outs doesn’t mean the lid should stay closed that long. Changes in occupancy, products, or health can all affect your system.
