I've had a few questions, so I figured I would do a Q&A post.
1. Where are you located? I do headlight restoration out of my home/garage. 52 Chesed Blvd, just off Salisbury road.
2. What process do you use? Generally most lenses can be polished. I have several different compounds. Metal polishes tend to have higher solids/abrasives than paint correction compounds, so they work very well on acrylic lenses with a polisher, but in some cases wet sanding is required before polishing. If wet sanding is required, add $10.
In either case, after a clensing wipe down, I use a ceramic coating to prevent further UV damage and to seal things up so the lenses don't yellow and appear foggy for a good while.
3. How much do you charge? Most cars are $40. Add $10 for really bad lenses that require wet sanding.
4. Why so cheap? (Most detailing shops charge double that.) I have no overhead, so I don't need to charge $48/hr like a pro detailing shop. I have a bodyshop grade polisher that I've had for 15 years, so I figured I could use it. Supplies and my time are all I'm charging for. I enjoy looking after cars, and having crystal clear headlights has a huge impact on how a vehicle looks, and lighting performance, so this is my niche.
5. What is your schedule like?
I'm just starting out with this, so I have lots of availability in the evenings and the weekends right now. I do suffer with migraine headaches but I can't really plan around them. Hopefully they don't impact any appointments.
I can work on your car while you wait, or the vehicle can be dropped off. I do need to be able to open the hood to mask around the headlights, and I prefer to work in the garage with good lighting, so having the keys is the best if you are dropping the car off. Typically looking at 30-40mins including the time to apply the ceramic coating if you want to wait.
Hopefully this helps you out with any questions. My name is Graham. Feel free to contact me through Facebook or text me. My cell # is (506)871-5933.
