⭐ Nothing makes us happier than hearing results like this!

One of our customers came to us after their south-facing century home was being overrun by thousands of unwanted beetles. After treating the property in the fall, the difference the following season spoke for itself:

💬 “IT WORKS!!! I am absolutely thrilled to report that I have not even seen ONE beetle. I truly am not exaggerating when I say March–May of 2024 I had THOUSANDS of them.”

And we especially appreciate the kind words about Mike:

💬 “He is patient, thoughtful, professional and always kind. Rare to find these days.”

Pest control isn’t only about dealing with what’s crawling around your home. It’s about having someone you can trust to listen, explain your options and help find the right solution for your property.

Thank you for trusting Protec with your home and for taking the time to share your experience! ❤️

🔒 Your business may be closed for the night. Pests aren’t.

Once employees and customers leave, quiet commercial spaces can become an opportunity for rodents and insects to explore unnoticed. Food crumbs, garbage areas, storage rooms, loading doors, floor drains and small gaps around the building can provide pests with food, shelter and easy access.

And the longer activity goes unnoticed, the greater the chance of contamination, property damage or a pest making an appearance when customers return.

Don’t wait until you see one during business hours.

Regular inspections can help identify signs of pest activity and potential entry points before they turn into a bigger problem.

🍂 Cooler nights don’t just send us indoors.

As fall temperatures drop across Annapolis Valley, mice and other rodents start looking for warm, sheltered places with easy access to food and your home, garage or shed can check all three boxes.

It doesn’t take a big opening. Small gaps around foundations, doors, vents, siding and utility lines may be enough for rodents to find their way inside.

And once they’re comfortable, they’re not planning to leave when winter arrives.

Before the colder weather settles in, watch for scratching sounds, droppings, chewed materials and other signs of activity around your property.

Not sure what you’re seeing? Get it checked before a small fall visitor becomes a winter pest problem.

🐭 Found something suspicious around your home?

Small droppings in the garage. Chewed packaging in storage. Scratching sounds after dark. A strange smell you can’t quite place.

These little clues can be some of the first signs that mice or other rodents have made their way inside and what you’re seeing may only be part of the problem.

The bigger question is: How are they getting in?

Small gaps around foundations, doors, vents and utility lines can give rodents an easy way into your home.

If you’ve spotted the signs but aren’t sure what you’re dealing with, Protec can help identify the problem and potential entry points before it gets worse.

Summer may be winding down, but that doesn't mean wasp activity is over.

In late summer and early fall, wasps can become much more noticeable around patios, garbage bins, fallen fruit, outdoor meals, and sugary drinks as their seasonal food sources change.

If you're still seeing plenty of wasps in September, don't automatically assume they'll disappear tomorrow.

Keep an eye out for:

✔ Frequent wasp traffic around one area
✔ Wasps entering gaps in siding or structures
✔ Activity around decks, sheds, and rooflines
✔ Nests near entrances or high-traffic areas

⚠️ If you discover an active nest, avoid disturbing it or blocking the entrance. A professional can assess the situation and determine the safest approach.

This World Wasp Day, September 24, remember: fall may be arriving, but wasp season isn't necessarily finished.

You don't need to be a pest professional to spot some of the most common ways pests can get into your home. Take 60 seconds and walk along one exterior wall. Look for:

✔ Gaps around pipes and utility lines
✔ Cracks along the foundation
✔ Damaged or missing vent covers
✔ Gaps underneath exterior doors
✔ Torn window screens
✔ Openings where siding meets the foundation
✔ Signs of gnawing, nesting, or pest activity

Small openings are easy to overlook, but they're exactly the details we look for during an inspection.
Not sure what you're looking at? That's where we come in.

September means harvest season in the Annapolis Valley, but all that fresh food isn't only attracting us.

Fallen apples, overripe fruit, garden vegetables, compost, seeds, and harvest waste can provide an easy food source for insects and rodents.

As you enjoy the harvest:

✔ Pick up fallen fruit regularly
✔ Harvest ripe produce promptly
✔ Keep compost properly contained
✔ Clean up garden waste and debris
✔ Avoid leaving produce sitting outside
✔ Keep the area around your home and foundation tidy

You don't need to stop enjoying your garden or fruit trees. A little cleanup can make your property much less inviting to unwanted visitors.

Enjoy the harvest. Just don't provide the pests with a buffet. 🍂

Found the perfect dresser, couch, or nightstand on Marketplace? Before you bring it into your home, give it a thorough inspection.

Second-hand furniture can sometimes provide hiding places for unwanted pests. Before moving your find indoors:

✔ Check seams, folds, and upholstery
✔ Open and inspect every drawer
✔ Look underneath and behind furniture
✔ Check cracks, joints, and screw holes
✔ Watch for droppings, shed skins, eggs, or live insects
✔ When possible, clean and inspect items outside first

A great deal isn't such a great deal if it brings an unexpected pest problem with it.
Take a few extra minutes before bringing second-hand furniture through the door.

Why Are There So Many Spiders Right Now? 🕷️ If you've been spotting more spiders around your home lately, it doesn't necessarily mean you have a spider infestation. In late summer, spiders become more noticeable because they're following their food. As insects begin finding their way indoors, spiders follow close behind, looking for an easy meal.

In other words, spiders may be a sign that other pests are already making themselves at home. If you're seeing more webs, spiders, or insects around your property, it's worth investigating before a small issue becomes a bigger one.

Outdoor summer living is a great way to enjoy the season, but it’s also an open invitation for pests.

Grease left in the BBQ, sugary drink spills, overflowing recycling, garbage bins that don't close properly, and even your pet's water or food bowl can attract ants, wasps, flies, and rodents looking for an easy meal. Keeping these areas clean doesn't just make your backyard more enjoyable, it also makes it much less appealing to unwanted visitors.

If pests are starting to crash your backyard gatherings, we're here to help.
