To our valued customers of Snookâs Septic Service,
We regret to inform you that, due to capacity issues at the treatment facility in West Hants owned by GFL we unfortunately are unable to dispose of any waste as of end of day June 14/24. We were given this news on June 11/24 with just a few days to find an alternative treatment facility. We contacted Halifax Water to inquire if we could return to disposing of HRM Septic back into the treatment facility in HRM thinking that this wouldnât be an issue. Unfortunately, we were made aware Wednesday, June 15 that would not be possible. Our MLA has been working hard on our behalf all week long. We were hoping that a reasonable solution would be found. Then on Friday, we were made aware that we would not be able to dispose of HRMâs waste here in HRM and we would have to find alternative places to dump. Weâd be forced to haul HRM waste to outside treatment facilities yet again. The closest one that has any capacity to take our waste from Halifax is Amherst. Unfortunately, with the cost for disposal and the distance to travel, this would be unreasonable. The cost to our customers would be outrageous. We are being forced to suspend all household septic pumping services until a reasonable solution is established.
This decision is beyond our control, and we understand the significant inconvenience this causes, not only for our community and our loyal customers, but for our home grown business.
We are making every effort, with the help of our MLA and Councillor, to make appeals to municipal and provincial leaders, but no reasonable solution has been offered other than sending our waste to Amherst for disposal.
The lack of response at the municipal and provincial levels is unacceptable, and we share your frustration. With the number of new builds that have been approved by the province to accommodate our increased population, you would think the Dept. of Environment would have the infrastructure in place to handle the increased need for sewage disposal. This is not the case.
We urgently need your support to advocate for our communities. Please contact your local MLA, Councillor, Dept of Environment and/or the Premier of NS and demand an immediate resolution. Your voices can make a difference in pushing for a prompt, effective solution.
