It is important to have your septic tank pumped out and inspected on a regular basis. This ensures your system is working properly and prevents excessive sludge buildup, which could enter and clog the leaching bed and cause sewage to back up into your home.

: How often should I have my septic tank pumped and inspected? 🤔

This is an excellent idea, no one should be rinsing cooking fats down the drain, we’ve seen a much higher percentage (probably Covid related as more folks are home more often) in emergency back up calls due to fats, oils and greases binding together in the septic tank and creating back up issues.

Had a little fun with Biggs & Barr and Pasty Jamie this morning!! Big ups to the lads from Chez 106, it was alotta fun!!
Slight correction though: Pasty Jamie declares we'll service all of Eastern Ontario which is not exactly our range... We generally service the Ottawa-Carleton, Leeds & Grenville/Lanark regions and the majority of the St. Lawrence Seaway Valley, from Ingleside/Morrisburg to parts just west of Brockville and everything in between!!

Shared with permission from our good friends over @ Kingfish Pumping (Carleton Place area); this will apply for our business as well until we safely come out on the other side of this pandemic:

COVID-19 Virus

The recent outbreak in Canada of the Covid-19 virus (Corona Virus) has resulted in a number of precautions put in place by public authorities. In order to do our part to assist health care professionals in limiting the spread of the virus, as well as to protect our employees and customers, we are implementing a number of simple procedures here within our company, effective immediately:

We are instructing our staff to maintain a distance of two arms’ lengths from customers during this time, in line with public health recommendations – its nothing personal.

We are asking customers not to pay our drivers, but to provide credit cards when booking appointments. We in turn will email you an invoice and/or a receipt once the job has been completed and the payment processed.

Please do not come to our office to pay in person during this time. We are trying to limit contact, and may have office staff working from home to help with childcare needs. We are still available by phone and email of course.

As a small business, this has the potential to have a large impact on us should our employees become ill. We ask for our customers’ understanding as we all try to ride out this outbreak together.

Stay Safe,

Some friendly “Do’s & Do Not’s” with regards to your septic systems, Residential or Commercial septic, the same applies.
(List created by our friends from Kingfish Pumping located in the Carleton Place area)

A few key do’s & don'ts to keep in mind in order to ensure your septic system stays healthy and in good working order.

- DO familiarize yourself with the location of your system
- DO NOT drive or park on your septic tank or weeping bed or plant shrubs or trees near or on the tank or bed
- DO have your well tested regularly, and at different times of the year
- If you have an effluent filter, DO clean it at least once a year, although spring and fall would be best. If you don't have one, consider adding one.
- DO NOT do all your laundry in one day and space out the use of dishwashers, showers and washing machines so the weeping bed has time to absorb the water
- DO conserve water to minimize the amount of wastewater generated by repairing leaky plumbing fixtures, taking shorter showers or installing water-saving fixtures, and using the eco options on dishwashers and washing machines.
- DO NOT pour oil, grease, food waste, hazardous chemicals or paint down your drains and
- DO NOT **this one we cannot stress enough** DO NOT flush sanitary pads, tampons, condoms cigarette butts, wet wipes (even the "flushable" ones) down your toilet. The general rule is that if it doesn’t pass through you, it doesn’t go down that toilet, the obvious exception is a maximum 2ply toilet paper
- DO have your septic tank emptied regularly by a licensed pumping company
- DO NOT fall into the belief that a septic tank never needs pumping, the $300.00 to $400.00 it costs every 3-4yrs on average is much easier to deal with than an average $30,000 full system replacement. Septic tanks most certainly DO require regular pumping intervals as a preventative maintenance requirement.

This is an interesting read, and it most certainly justifies the advice those in our industry have been doling out to homeowners for years.

There is no such thing as a flushable wipe, no matter what a package is telling you, says the researcher behind a new study into flushability.
