Watching the fires sweep across our communities brings back memories that so many of us hoped weβd never have to relive. My heart is with every family that has been evacuated, those who have lost their homes, and the first responders working tirelessly around the clock to protect our families and safe havens.
Here are a few wildfire safety tips to help prepare your home and family in case an evacuation becomes necessary. Itβs never too early to be prepared, and itβs never too late to play it safe:
β’ Pack the valuable and irreplaceable items. (Some clothing, medications, important documents, and pet/child supplies)
β’ Anything valuable that you canβt bring with you, place in a ziplock bag inside your freezer. They donβt burn in fires.
β’ Water your roof, siding, and surrounding area if itβs safe to do so and local guidance allows. If itβs wet, itβs harder to burn.
β’ Keep your vehicles fueled and ready to leave at a momentβs notice.
β’ Remove any flammable debris from around your home.
β’ Keep your phone charged and stay up to date with official emergency alerts.
β’ Know your evacuation routes, and if youβre told to leave, donβt wait.
Please take care of one another. Check in on your friends, family members and neighbors and lend a hand where you can. Most importantly, stay safe and follow evacuation orders if they affect you. Keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers β€οΈ
