One of the cool things about my job is that I get to deep dive into a topic that I would have never explored on my own. A client I have been working with for a few years needed a product designed, as my clients often do. Though the original design didn’t use foam, as the concept evolved it revealed that it would make a lot of sense to use it. I knew the basics of foam like anyone else does, but after talking to manufacturers and fabricators, learning how it’s made and it’s limitations, and prototyping with different densities, I now have a much deeper knowledge of the topic. Is foam exciting? Absolutely not. But I appreciate that there’s a lot to learn about a lot of things, and once you know it, you can carry that knowledge into the future.
