Is your home or cottage covered with small caterpillars dropping from the trees making your time outside uncomfortable?
The Gypsy moth is unfortunately for the time being here to stay. Introduced to Massachusetts from Europe in the 1800`s, this moth and it`s caterpillars have been wreaking havoc on the deciduous trees in south and central Ontario since the late 60`s. If your property contains Oaks, Sugar Maples, Beech, White Pines, it is suggested you monitor your trees for eggs sacs tan in color, that are laid right on the bark. After hatching, the caterpillars climb higher into the boughs and branches and can defoliate a tree of its leaves within months. This added stress on the tree can weaken it and eventually kill it. This means a loss of privacy and structure to your property. Worse, they make enjoying your patio and the outdoors challenging as hundreds may drop on your roof, deck, barbeque or patio daily.
