We are incredibly honoured to share that Goodfish Lake Business Corporation has been named the recipient of CCIB’s 2026 Indigenous Business of the Year Award.

This recognition reflects 50 years of leadership, hard work, community support, industry partnership, and the dedication of the many people who have helped build Goodfish into what it is today.

From our beginnings in 1976 to where we stand now, this achievement belongs to our employees, leadership, Whitefish Lake First Nation #128, our partners, and everyone who has supported Goodfish along the way.

Thank you to the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business for this recognition, and congratulations to everyone who has been part of this journey.

Congratulations to Goodfish Coveralls (GFLBC), recipient of CCIB’s 2026 Indigenous Business of the Year Award!

Presented by Ess Support Services Worldwide, this award recognizes an Indigenous business with more than 20 employees that supports the economic, social and cultural well-being of Indigenous communities.

Founded in 1976 by Chief Sam Bull and the Economic Development Committee of Whitefish Lake First Nation #128, GFLBC was established to create employment and economic opportunity for its Nation. What began as a small dry-cleaning facility and local sewing club has evolved into a diversified organization with operations in garment manufacturing, industrial laundry services, environmental services, inspections and wildland firefighting services.

Today, GFLBC employs 140 permanent staff across Alberta, with approximately 70% of employees identifying as Indigenous. Wholly owned by Whitefish Lake First Nation #128, the company reinvests its profits into community priorities including infrastructure, education and economic development, helping create lasting benefits for future generations.

“On behalf of our employees, and our owner, the Whitefish Lake First Nation #128, we thank Canadian Council for Indigenous Business for selecting us as a recipient of the 2026 CCIB Indigenous Business of the Year Award,” said Tom Jackson, CEO of GFLBC. “Goodfish Lake Business Corporation’s success is the result of 50 years of forward-thinking leadership and support from our community, as well as corporate support from our key customers in the oil and gas industry, and other industries. We are very pleased to receive this prestigious award.”

We will be presenting GFLBC with this award at CCIB’s West Coast Awards Dinner, sponsored by BMO Financial Group, on Oct. 15 in Vancouver. Join us in celebrating this achievement and share your congratulations with the GFLBC team in the comments below!

Eva's story is about growth, confidence, and the opportunities that can come from having meaningful work close to home.

As a supervisor at Goodfish Lake Drycleaners, Eva helps keep production moving, supports employees across different stations, and mentors younger workers as they build their own skills and confidence.

After starting with the company in 2000, Eva has grown from a shy young employee into a leader who now helps others come out of their shell, take on new responsibilities, and see what is possible for their future.

Her story reflects what Goodfish Lake Business Corporation has created over the past 50 years: a place where people can learn, grow, lead, and take pride in the work they do every day.

Watch Eva’s story and help us celebrate the people behind 50 years of Goodfish Lake Business Corporation.

For 50 years, Goodfish Lake Business Corporation has built more than garments. It has built trust, opportunity, and a lasting relationship with industry.

In this special 50th anniversary video, former Syncrude leaders Jim Carter and Eric Newell reflect on Goodfish’s early role as one of Syncrude’s first Indigenous business partners, its growth from coveralls, laundry, and repairs into a trusted industrial workwear supplier, and the community impact that continues today.

Their message is a powerful reminder that Goodfish’s story is one of partnership, hard work, community capacity, and Indigenous business success.

For Ron, Vivian, and Kyle Jackson, Goodfish is more than a workplace... it’s family, history, and home.

From the early days working in an old school with broken furnaces and no modern equipment, to today’s growing operations with stronger systems, higher standards, and new opportunities, their story shows how far Goodfish has come.

Vivian helped train new workers and took pride in seeing Goodfish garments worn out in the field. Ron built a long career close to home. Kyle now carries that legacy forward while helping raise standards and create opportunities for the next generation.

This is what 50 years of Goodfish looks like: hard work, family pride, community employment, and a future being built from within.
