With no time change this weekend we were prepping for some scheduling hiccups... bookings all over the place etc. And then? Nothing. Not one glitch. Everything just worked like it always does. Thanks for not giving us a heart attack, Jobber 🧡

Just a quick reminder that the clocks will stay the same tonight as we are no longer “falling back” in the East Kootenay and will remain on the current time year-round.

The mountains are covered with fresh snow and with Halloween just around the corner, winter is starting to feel close. We’re only a month away from Fernie Alpine Resort’s proposed opening day and the excitement for another ski season is already building. Looking out my front window to see where the fresh snow cleanly stops down Mt Fernie's treeline has always been my measuring stick to gauge where the snowline is on Fernie Alpine Resort.

-Snow ends at start of the alpine zone = White Pass Top
-Chutes converging into a 'V' = Elk Top
-In between the two = Bear Top

Accurate?

Quite the defined snowline on Mt. Fernie this afternoon when the finally clouds cleared.

By my crude method of measuring, looks like the snow turned to rain around Elk Top.

We’re still more than a month from opening day at Fernie Alpine Resort, but it looks like the Griz is already hard at work! ❄️🏔️

The mountains are starting to turn white and we can’t help but get a little excited about what’s to come!

⛸️ BIG NEWS FOR THE OUTDOOR RINK ! 🏒

After a lot of hard work and planning, the Fernie Outdoor Rinks Society is excited to announce that we have officially signed a 30-year lease with the City of Fernie

This is a huge milestone for our society and an important step toward establishing a permanent outdoor rink for Fernie.

And we’re not waiting until next year to get started.

Our plan is to build a “temporary” outdoor rink for the 2026–2027 winter season- Let’s make some ice!!! 🧊

We’re also incredibly grateful to share that our local Home Hardware and Canadian Tire have already committed donations to help make this first phase possible. Their generosity is helping us turn this vision into reality!

Looking ahead to 2027, our goal is to break ground on a permanent concrete pad that will provide the foundation for a year-round, multipurpose recreation space.

This rink has always been about more than just skating and a place to play hockey. It was born out of tragedy and built through the strength and generosity of our amazing community coming together. As we look to the future, we remain committed to honouring the three lives lost and the spirit of community that brought this rink to life in the first place. Last year we were truly humbled and honoured with the amount of community support from local businesses and individuals willing to lend a hand.

We’re excited to finally be moving forward and we couldn’t do it without the support of our community ❤️

❗🛑 Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway (CPKC) will be completing railroad track maintenance near 4th Street, requiring a temporary closure of the crossing.
The 4th Street crossing will be closed on Thursday, October 22, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
🚧Signage is posted and CPKC will have traffic control personnel in place. Please plan to use the 13th Street crossing during the closure.
