For the first time in our city’s history, an entire community has been renamed! The community of Oliver will now be named Wîhkwêntôwin ᐄᐧᐦᑫᐧᐣᑑᐃᐧᐣ (We-Kwen-To-Win) a nêhiyawêwin (Cree) word meaning Circle of Friends.

The renaming process was led by the community and the City of Edmonton was proud to accept the name, which is a small step on the road to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
