I hope everyone has had a great start to the new school year. Ours was a little rough with the dreaded flu bug. This served as a reminder to me of how quickly illness spreads. I have a couple measures now in place. I will not come to clean if anyone is home sick. For most homes I will be masking. I will continue to use gloves, and I will use a non-bleach disinfectant to wipe all door k***s and light switches.

I have added 3 new cleaners to my collection. These are not from Roots Refillery. Turns out, I have a need for a few types of cleaners not available there. Roots Refillery will still occupy the majority of my supply, but these are great products needed to make your home pristine!
1. Rock doctor granite, quartz and stone polish.
This is for counter tops only to help protect from water marks and damage from other liquids.
2. Method tub and tile foaming cleaner.
This is only for bathrooms and has already proved to be a huge difference in quality of cleaning. It is also giving me the satisfaction I need while scrubbing your showers and tubs.
3. Odoban floor cleaner.
This is a wonderful choice for any hard floor surface and great for taking care of pet odors. While the instructions list it as safe for MOST hardwood floors (not be used on unfinished or oiled), I will still only use Murphy's Oil Soap for unfinished and oiled hardwood and Bona for all other hardwood flooring.

Deep cleaning is sadly one of those things that are not prioritized the way it should be. This is my stove area. I pull out the stove and clean the sides, floors and walls surrounding it regularly. This took me about 4 minutes to do because I maintain it. Most homes skip this until there is a build up that they can see. If you have a funky smell in your kitchen, this is the first place I would check.

Wondering why your price differs from your friend's house?

I recently did a walkthrough and quoted the potential client. She was upset with the price and said it was so much higher than expected. I believe the problem was she compared her house with her friend who gave the referral.
Her friend has a small house. 1 floor, 2 bathrooms. The house required just cleaning. Kept meticulous and no pets. She pays $80/biweekly.
The walk through was a 2 story house, 3 bathrooms in need of attention, a "very hairy dog" (homeowners words not mine), tidying all the areas which are heavily cluttered with toys, kids stuff dishes etc, making beds in all bedrooms, doing dishes and emptying garbage. I quoted her $169/biweekly.
I still stand by the quote and would not have made it any less. You can't really compare the needs of two houses. Everyone's needs, requests and the level of work is different.

What should I do as a client to better prepare my home for a cleaning service?

My biggest and best advice is to tidy the house and put your things away. Most of my clients are set up for general cleaning. This is not the same as deep cleaning or housekeeping. Unless you have arranged tidying prior to your service, my job is to come in, and clean the surfaces only.
