When moss starts growing on your shingles, that’s when it can really start causing damage. The roots can work their way into the shingles, lifting the protective grit and slowly breaking down the roof.

The good news? Moss is much easier (and cheaper) to prevent than it is to deal with once it takes over.
A periodic soft-wash treatment helps keep moss from getting established in the first place. Ideally, this is done annually or twice a year, often at the same time as your gutter maintenance.

And there’s another reason to stay on top of it: insurance companies are becoming increasingly picky about roof conditions, and excessive moss can potentially become an issue when it comes to maintaining coverage.
