Please note- if you move your vehicle after the windrows are up, the blower is NOT going to clear where your vehicle was.

There are ALOT of streets to get through and doubling back is not a positive use of time.

Thank you for your understanding!

Public Notice – Snow Clearing Update

Road crews and contractors have been working diligently to clear the city’s streets so that residents can travel safely following Tuesday’s record-setting snowfall.

The city also requires diligence from residents when it comes to removing vehicles from streets so that unsafe conditions are not created.

Residents are being asked to remove vehicles from streets where windrows have been created and where they pose a safety concern for snow removal crews and emergency vehicles. Should vehicles parked on the street pose a safety concern, they will be subject to towing at the owners’ expense.

The city will be taking decisive steps to ensure roads are safe for crews to clear snow. This includes working with Cold Lake Municipal Enforcement to identify where cars parked on the street have either not been moved in the past 72 hours, or where they create unsafe conditions for snow clearing crews and emergency vehicles. These steps are in accordance with City of Cold Lake Bylaw 536-PL-14.

If your vehicle is found to be creating an unsafe situation for road crews or emergency vehicles, your vehicle will be towed. No written warnings will be given to residents to move vehicles.

The city would like to thank all residents for their patience and cooperation.

The guys are out and about doing their best to clear the roads!
YES, we’re getting stuck too..

Please have patience and give them room to work.

PUBLIC NOTICE: SNOW REMOVAL UPDATE

Road crews and contractors will be plowing windrows in all priority routes, including residential areas, starting immediately and going into tomorrow (Feb. 19). Due to the extreme amount of snow received, this method is out of the ordinary snow removal system, and intended to give access to streets as quickly as possible.

The windrows will remain in the middle of the road until crews can pick them up, which may take several additional days. A schedule of pick-ups will be posted later today or tomorrow.

At this time, we ask residents to move their vehicles off the street, whether borrowing a driveway from a neighbour or using your own. This will allow for equipment to come through as quickly as possible to create a laneway of cleared snow for people to use.

We understand that windrows can be a nuisance, but this will allow for faster vehicle access to residential areas. As windrows can sometimes be difficult to see around, please use caution and patience when driving. Do not allow children to play in or walk on the windrows, as it could be very dangerous for drivers, operators, and those on the windrows.

We have also received reports of people shovelling or blowing snow from their driveways into the street. Please do not, as this creates more work for our Roads crews, dangerous areas for other drivers, and is against our bylaws. Snow from your driveway must be placed on your property instead.

KEY POINTS:
- Graders are coming today or tomorrow
- Move your vehicles asap
- Windrows will remain (for now) to allow more streets are opened for drivers
- Pick-up schedule for windrows will be posted later
- Don't put your driveway snow into the street
- Don't play in the windrows

Please share this information with your neighbours and friends to ensure crews can get to all streets as quickly as possible.

Public Notice: City crews continue work after snowstorm

City of Cold Lake Staff are continuing to work to maintain services and clear roads after a significant winter storm on February 17.

Residents are advised to limit travel if possible, and to keep a close eye on weather and road conditions and take precautions for any necessary travel.

City crews and contractors worked throughout the storm to keep Priority 1 roads open. Crews will continue to work on Priority 1, 2 and 3 roads, and will be planning to clear residential roadways as soon as possible. A snow-clearing schedule for residential areas will be shared on www.coldlake.com and via social media, however, residents should be aware that schedules will remain fluid and are subject to change given weather conditions and the availability of resources.

Any impact on municipal services will also be posted to the City’s social media channels.

The storm brought gusting snow amounting to 36.5 centimetres in the City of Cold Lake, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. This is almost five times the next largest daily snowfall recorded in the community this winter season.

More information regarding the City of Cold Lake’s snow removal policy can be found at www.coldlake.com/snow.

Scratch that—— GO THE WASHROOM FIRST, then put your snowsuits and mittens on! 😎

Keep warm everyone!

From the Safety Department:

Our snow removal crews are out and about again cleaning our streets.
Dwain the blower operator reminds everyone to PLEASE move your cars off the streets!
The City of Cold Lake has placed signs throughout the neighborhoods where street cleaning is happening.

He sent me this video from the cab.
Although he’s an excellent and experienced operator, if your car is on the street- there’s a good chance he won’t see it.
