This is a chunk of calcium from a build up in a storm sewer of a business along St Clair St .
This storm line was 80% plugged with this calcium. This becomes as hard a mortar in the line.
We have the equipment to remove calcium which saves digging up the entire storm line on the property as well out into the municipalitys side of the line.
Calcium is a common problem with all homes and businesses in Chatham and surrounding areas due to the depths of basements in ground.
We find it starts with basements that are 5ft deep inground and deeper. The deeper the basement, the heavier the calcium deposits.
This is brought into a homes sump pit from the footing tiles. The ground water at these depths is the source.
The signs of the calcium can be seen in the sump pit . It's commonly a brown the rusty brown scale build up. It also will build up on sump pumps slide for the float that activates the sump pump cause it to stick and not active, thus causing flooding in a basement.

We have another big storm coming. Test your sump pumps and make sure they work. Pull up on the float to activate it. If you have a water back up , test it the same way and make sure it runs. If battery back up , pull up on its float and check it's battery level.
If you have issues, we stock new sump pumps that carry a 5 year warranty.

Our J P Carey Sewer and Drain techs got to the root of the problem. This homes storm sewer was full of roots. They cleared it all out just in time for last night's rain.

New waterline service installed today. This was out near Grandpoint .
Code says it must be 5ft deep . We also insulated this due to the fact this past winter saw frost reach 6ft deep. This insulation will help prevent freezing if the frost were to get this deep in the future.
We had to thaw out alot of frozen sanitary sewers this winter and had many calls for frozen water services.

Updated more photos , nearly completed. Foundation repairs and storm sewer at 50 Eugenie st Chatham. Coming along very well ..

Update of more photos added. Foundation repairs and water proofing in the works. More yet to complete .We make repairs to mortar joints , let it dry . Then face parge, sponge the about grade that will be seen after its backfilled to create a nice professional finish. Next is footing tile flush , tar, membrane ,finish strips to seal the top and sides where we stop , tile , stone , filter cloth to go on top of filter cloth , then back fill.
This is the proper way the waterproof.

This this past week we corrected another cross bore of a gas main hitting a storm sewer. This is a early 1980's hit. This is second generation gas main which was orange in colour . The home had been experiencing water issues in the basement for years. The homeowner stated he had a basement company do work on the inside of the basement a few years ago. But that didn't fix the cause of the problem.
This gas main crossbore was the cause of the problems. The gas service line had also hit this storm sewer up closer the the house as well.
We have corrected this issue .
