“Calgary’s first real cold snap usually shows up before most people have touched their eaves.

Here’s the 10-minute check to do before it does:

→ Look for standing water in the run. If it’s pooling instead of draining, something’s blocked or the pitch has shifted
→ Check the downspout exits. Frozen ground at the bottom turns a clear downspout into a plugged one overnight
→ Scan for gaps at the seams and corners. A small drip in October is a big ice formation in January
→ Look for brackets pulling away from the fascia
