Here is a great photo of a Carpenter Ant that we took a couple of days ago.

Carpenter Ants and their satellite colonies can be found infesting the structural wood framework of your home, wood siding, fences, sheds, or other structurally sound wood items on your properties.

It is rare to find the main colony on your property as there is simply too much human interaction to allow a primary nesting site to survive, however it is not completely unheard of.

Carpenter Ants do not feed on wood, they excavate it, tunneling through creating their travel pathways, galleries and other structures to support daily life.

Usually described as large black ants, they are roughly 3-4 times larger than pavement ants. Camponotus modoc (the Western Carpenter Ant) major workers can reach 1.7cm (17mm) in length!

Not as damaging as Termites, but still a risk to your home if an infestation is left unchecked.

German Cockroaches!

This photo shows the full range of growth that a German cockroach goes through, and how different each stage of growth can look both size and appearance wise.

The large female in the centre of the photo is carrying an ootheca (egg case) which can carry up to 50 German cockroach nymphs.

Cockroach infestations can escalate very quickly due to rapid population growth. If you find one, it is critical that a full inspection be completed to make sure you don't have a bigger problem hidden in your kitchen!

Another awesome video showing pavement ants excavating individual pieces of sand, one by one, out of their colony to create tunnels and galleries to live in.

Pavement Ants!

Has anyone seen an abundance of small black ants around your home? These ants love to excavate their nesting locations resulting in little piles of sand showing up along walk ways, the side of your home, around the root structures of weeds in your yard. Although not dangerous, they can be a nuisance when they enter into your home looking for food!

Rodents: Vectors of Disease

Hantavirus
This severe respiratory disease is spread through fresh or dried rodent droppings, urine, or nesting materials. When you sweep or vacuum contaminated areas, the virus becomes airborne. Inhaling just a small amount can lead to serious illness.

Salmonella
Rodents carry bacteria on their fur and feet from crawling through garbage and sewers. Once inside your kitchen, they can easily contaminate countertops, utensils, and open food packages, leading to severe food poisoning.

Leptospirosis
If rodents urinate on your floors, baseboards, or basement surfaces, the bacteria can enter your body through small cuts on your hands or feet. This bacterial infection can cause high fever, liver damage, and kidney issues.

Rat-Bite Fever
Even without a visible bite, handling contaminated surfaces or food that rodents have touched can transmit this illness. Symptoms include vomiting, muscle pain, and skin rashes.

What You Can Do
