What Travel Taught Me About Inclusion

After traveling to nearly 40 countries, I've learned that the places that leave the biggest impression aren't always the ones with the most famous attractions.

They're the places where people feel welcomed.

One of the reasons we enjoy serving Burlington is the strong sense of community here. People from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences come together to create a city that feels both welcoming and connected.

As Pride Month begins, we're reminded that communities thrive when people feel respected, included, and free to be themselves.

That's something worth celebrating.

Is it just us, or does every home in Burlington become mysteriously dusty the second spring arrives? đŸŒŒđŸ˜„

One minute your house feels clean
 the next, there’s pollen on the windowsills, pet hair floating through the hallway, and enough crumbs under the couch cushions to feed a small village.

Back in the early days of our cleaning company, our first “office” rented for $250 a month and may have originally been designed to store mops. Honestly, I’m still not fully convinced it wasn’t a janitor closet. 😄

From there, we upgraded to running the business out of a condo (yes, really), before eventually buying the office building we still proudly call home today.

I recently wrote about the journey: the tiny office, the unconventional ideas, the risks, the lessons, and the moment I finally felt like, “Wow
 we actually made it.”

Looking back, it’s funny how the things that seem a little crazy at the time sometimes turn out to be the best decisions you ever make.

And today, having our building fully paid off means we can invest more back into our staff, our customers, and building a company we’re proud of.

Thanks to everyone in Burlington and Oakville who has supported us over the years. It truly means the world to us.

This past weekend, I had my daughter hanging out at the office, and I suggested she could write a blog post. I was expecting something short and sweet.

Instead, she wrote a full story.

Yesterday my wife and I attended a chocolate and coffee tasting at Chocolate and Love Cafe in Mississauga, hosted by Oakville News, and I’m happy to report that after extensive research and testing, chocolate and coffee pair very well together.

We originally connected with Oakville News when Oakville Maids was voted Best House Cleaning in the Oakville News Reader Favourite Awards, so when Charlene invited us to this event, we thought it would be a fun day date and a chance to meet other local business owners.

We had a great time meeting people from the Oakville business community, sharing stories, making a few new contacts, and learning how different chocolates pair with different drinks. Apparently sweetness softens bitterness, freshness lifts richness, and texture shapes perception. I mostly concluded that I like all chocolate.

It’s always nice being part of a community that supports local businesses, and we’re looking forward to the next Oakville News event. And if you ever need house cleaning in Burlington
 we promise we won’t judge your chocolate stash.
