Pretty rare find today. Our team came across SEVEN baby raccoons in the attic, all from the same litter 😦

Typical litters range from 1-4 babies. This mama has her hands full!

They’d made themselves at home inside the soffit, and with that many up there things can get out of hand fast if they’re not dealt with.

We’re talking torn-up soffits and vents from mom coming and going, ongoing roof damage, insulation getting squished, soiled and dirty, and even drywall getting stained, contaminated and sagging from all the waste buildup.

What starts as a tiny opening can turn into a pretty big headache.

If you think something’s going on up there, it’s a good idea to get it checked out sooner rather than later.

Hey little fellas šŸ‘‹šŸ¼ A lot of people assume ā€œraccoon removalā€ means snaring, trapping and relocating to a new area but that’s not how we do things

These babies rely on their mom. So instead, we focus on humane practices and reuniting them. We safely remove them and place them outside in a baby box so when she returns, she can easily find them and move them to a new den site

At the same time, we make sure she can’t get back inside the home.

It’s a simple approach we’ve trusted for over 10 years, and it keeps both the home and the animals safe

Skunks also have had their babies.

Now is not the time to evict skunks from under your shed or deck.

Skunks are peaceful and would rather not spray you or your dog because it takes a lot of energy and time ti recharge. During that time they are defenceless.

Their eyesight isn’t very good, but if you move slow so they know you are there they are not likely to spray you.

They are predominantly nocturnal, so turning on outside light and giving your yard a once over before letting your dog out at night can go a long way toward preventing the dog getting sprayed.

The little skunk in the picture and her siblings have been with us for sometime. They are doing good so far and are starting to grow fur. Soon their little eyes will open.

Steve and Kenny removing another batch of raccoon babies from a call this evening

During baby season, these jobs need to be handled carefully.

A lot of people trap one raccoon and think the problem is solved. This time of year, there’s a good chance babies are hidden somewhere in the attic.

Mom will do everything she can to get back to them, which can lead to even more damage as she searches for another way back inside (like opening new areas of the roof, or ripping off soffits and vents)

This kind of work takes a thorough inspection and a proper plan to make sure everything is handled safely, for the homeowner and the animals.

If something sounds off in your attic, it’s worth getting it checked first

This is where things can get out of hand.

A small entry point in a backyard shed turned into a full squirrel nest with babies.

By the time we got there, there were chewed wires, destroyed insulation, and wet, damaged drywall.

The whole ceiling now will come down and be repaired.

This is why it’s worth dealing with wildlife early...
These problems don’t stay small for long.

Not sure? Give us a call and we can come take a look!

P.S. Babies were reunited with mom later that evening where she took them to a new den site

Here’s a good look at how we deal with wildlife entry points

This roof vent was damaged by a raccoon that was successful at getting into the attic. Rather than trapping and relocating, we install a one way door over the opening.

It lets the animal leave safely, shutting behind them and stops it from getting back in.

This method works because it fixes the actual problem. Relocating doesn’t, not only is it disruptive and harmful, it can lead to more issues… like animals trying to get back in or new ones taking over the same spot

Once we know everyone has left the building, we return for a final inspection, remove the door and properly seal the area.

This time of year can be tricky, especially with squirrels...

They’re small, they scatter, and they’re rarely all in one place šŸ¤¦šŸ»

Most are tucked deep into insulation, and attics aren’t exactly easy to work in, tight spaces, dark, and not a lot of room to move.

This is where experience matters. Missing even one baby or sealing things up too early can lead to bigger problems fast.

If something doesn’t sound right in your attic, make sure to give us a call!

Quite possibly our busiest baby season to date. The cold weather has been hanging on, driving wildlife into our attics šŸ¦šŸ¦

At this time of year when we see a busted soffit, there’s a good chance more than one raccoon has made itself at home.

Handling wildlife and their babies is not something you want to guess your way through or DIY.

If you think something’s moved in, don’t ignore it. Give us a call šŸ¤—

Starting off the week with more babies!!

These little guys were just removed from an attic and are being transferred to a warming baby box so they can wait for their mom to come back.

Many people assume we trap and relocate wildlife, but we don’t. If mom is moved too far away, she can’t get back to her babies, and they’re left behind.

Once she returns ā€œhomeā€ later this evening, she won’t be able to get back inside the attic, but her babies will be waiting safely for her to move to a new den she has ready near by.

Think you have something going on in your attic? We’re happy to take a look. Give us a call!
