I was given these cast iron pans this week. Here is how I saved them:
1. Strip pans by placing into the oven and running your clean oven option. Alternatively, wash in hot water with soap and scrub with a bristled brush.
2. Apply a thin layer of coconut oil (or vegetable oil, but not olive) to pans, front and back and handle.
3. Place into oven at 450° for 1 hour UPSIDE DOWN. After an hour shut off oven and allow oven to cool with pans inside.
4. Remove pans and wipe with a towel. If not completely clean and coated, repeat steps 2 thru 4. I like to give them two coats.
