So far this year there have been a lot of problems with Mice and Rats. There are a lot of reasons to get rid of mice and rats as soon as possible, but one of the main reasons is that they can be very destructive. The repair costs for damages can literally cost 10X what it would cost to get rid of the rodent problem in the first place. The Caledon Enterprise just posted an article "What we expect to make headlines in Caledon in 2022". The third thing on the list is our old nemesis the Gypsy moth. We had great success with controlling them last spring. The key is to spray within 1 week of seeing the caterpillars emerge. You can read the article here.

No one is sure what caused the recent fire in Alliston. However, it reminded us of a little known fact - attic fires are often the result of bare wires that had the insulation chewed off by mice.

So, you think having mice in the attic or basement is just a nuisance, guess again. Estimates by experts place the blame of about 20% of electrical fires squarely on rodents. They must constantly chew things to wear down their teeth. They chew everything....even wires. Bare wires, plus extra electricity flowing through them this time of year sometimes equals fire.

For your own safety and peace of mind check your house for signs of mice. They move at night so you may not hear them, but you can see where they've been. Check out the pictures below. Once you get a few of them, their trails are pretty easy to spot.

In the last few weeks, we have had multiple calls in homes at Briar Hills. In all cases the attic had a lot of mouse damage, and evidence that the mice had been there for a while. It is our experience that if a few houses have mice, there could be many more in the area. This is more likely if your neighbour has had a mouse problem, especially if you share a common wall with them!

Finding the problem early and dealing with it will help you to avoid damage, and extra cost later. If you are worried that you too may have mice, call us and schedule a mouse inspection. Not like we need more bad news....another pandemic related problem.

The closures of restaurants and other businesses have resulted in less garbage being left on the streets and in dumpsters, removing the major source of food for rodents and forcing them to look elsewhere for scraps.
