A confession:
In the past we have been declining many request from all of you regarding the restoration of embroidered bicycle saddles since it is simply NOT easy to make an embroidery on leather according to our quality standards;
Leather is a natural product with properties (stretch, thickness, ...) differing throughout the hide making the design less consistent that with other technologies. Plus, embroidery makes thousands of tiny perforations in the leather hide resulting into the effect of tear-off packaging.
๐ However, after a long search and lots of testing, we have finally found a great local embroidery partner that we now successfully collaborate with in order to offer custom embroidery specifically for leather bicycle saddles.
๐ In order to design embroidery for leather to be used in abrasive situations like cycling, it takes both knowledge and lots of testing to find the necessary amount of stitches and the right embroidery stitch type for different designs and leather types.
๐One could potentially argue that the visual quality of the embroidery has not improved over embroidery found on classic saddles. However, we managed to vastly improve the balance between longevity and design.
๐ค So for the first time since we launched Kontour, we feel comfortable enough to offer restoration and customization services which involve embroidery. Though we still prefer other solutions ๐ฌ.
