পানির মাধ্যমে যে রোগ ছড়ায়, সেগুলোই সাধারণত পানিবাহিত রোগ। জন্ডিস, টাইফয়েড, ডায়রিয়া ইত্যাদি পানির মাধ্যমে ছড়ায়। সময়মতো ব্যবস্থা না নিলে এসব রোগ জীবনঘাতী হতে পারে।
প্রশ্ন : আমরা আসলে এগুলো কীভাবে প্রতিরোধ করতে পারি?
উত্তর : শহরে যে পানির সাপ্লাই পাই, সেটি পিওর ছিল। তবে দুঃখজনকভাবে পরিবহনের পাইপে যদি কোনো লিক থাকে, তাহলে পাইপ থেকে ধুলা-বালু, জীবাণু সব ঢুকে যাবে। এ জন্য আমি বলব, নিরাপত্তার কারণে যদিও সাপ্লাইয়ের পানি পান করে থাকেন, তবে সিদ্ধ না করে পান করবেন না। ১০০ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াসে যেকোনো পানি যদি আমরা ৩০ মিনিট সিদ্ধ করে পান করি, তাহলে সব ধরনের প্রচলিত ব্যাকটেরিয়া মরে যাবে। কোনো ধরনের ব্যাকটেরিয়া বা ভাইরাসজনিত কারণে ডায়রিয়া হবে না।
