One year of The Window Pro Podcast. Hard to believe, really.

This 1st anniversary episode is not a flashy “best of” episode.

It’s more of a thank you and a reflection on what I’ve learnt after 12 months of conversations with window cleaners from Australia, the UK, and the US.

And the biggest thing that stood out?
This trade is full of good people.

Yes, there are poor standards out there. But there are also thoughtful, generous, skilled operators quietly lifting the standard every single day.

That has made me more encouraged than ever about the window cleaning industry.

We are not just cleaning glass!

That is one of the biggest lessons I’ve taken from the first year of The Window Pro Podcast.

When customers book a window cleaner, they are not only paying for clean windows. They are paying for reliability, communication, peace of mind, and trust.

We get invited into people’s homes, offices, cafĂ©s, and businesses. That is a privilege. And over time, when we turn up, communicate well, and do the job properly, we stop being “a window cleaner” and become “their window cleaner."

That trust compounds.

It may be Wednesday but it was a glorious day to travel over to "Straddie", the nickname for North Stradbroke Island, a popular getaway location for people in Brisbane.

The dolphins were surfing and the whales breaching as they travelled on their northern migration.

Michigan winters don’t stop Blaize Mason’s business.

Here in Brisbane, Australia, we deal with brutally humid summers. Blaize Mason, from Two Glass Gents in northern Michigan, deals with brutal winters.

In this episode, Blaize shares how his business keeps moving when window cleaning slows down. They’ve added services like snow removal, gutter cleaning, soft washing, air duct cleaning, dryer vent cleaning, and ice dam removal.

The lesson isn’t that every window cleaner needs to offer the same services.

The lesson is to think ahead, understand your market, and build extra income streams that make sense for your area.

He started window cleaning at 12 years old.

In this episode of The Window Pro Podcast, I chat with Blaize Mason from Two Glass Gents in northern Michigan.

Blaize started out cleaning windows with his dad, putting business cards in the local grocery store, and slowly built from there. Today, his business has grown into a 31-person operation.

What I loved about this conversation is how practical it was. Blaize talks honestly about the early days, learning the trade, growing the team, and keeping the business moving through some tough seasons.

If you’re a window cleaner trying to build something more professional and sustainable, there’s plenty in this one for you.

Podcast · A Window Cleaning Podcast by Duncan McRae · I've been cleaning windows (and figuring out business) for nearly 30 years. Sharing what’s worked — and what hasn’t — so you can build a trade life that’s profitable, steady, and a bit less stressful.

My first Reach-iT pole had problems — but that’s not the whole story.

Back in 2012, I bought my first pure water system from Window Cleaning World. It came with a Reach-iT Mini pole.

That pole had a few issues early on. When Window Cleaning World stopped being the distributor, I ended up dealing directly with Perry Tait.

To his credit, Perry helped me fix the issues — and I used that pole until I eventually sold that business.

In this episode, Perry and I talk honestly about those early tools, customer feedback, product development, and how Reach-iT has evolved over the years.

It is a good reminder that better tools are often built through real-world feedback from real window cleaners.

Buying better gear won’t help much if you use it the same old way.

In Part 1 of my conversation with Perry Tait, founder of Future of Cleaning and creator of Reach-iT tools, we talk about why better window cleaning tools often require better technique.

Perry shares why efficiency is not about rushing. It is about reducing wasted movement, understanding the tool in your hand, and changing the way you work.

We also get into RADIAL brushes, rinsing on the glass, and why using a new tool with an old method can limit the benefit.

This is a practical conversation for window cleaners who want to work smarter, protect their bodies, and get more from their equipment.
