Let's take a closer look at our "Pest of the Week"-The White Tail Spider. π
A little spider that is the unsurprising cause of many a surprised shriek, from both adults and kids alike.
While not an aggressive spider, these little critters give a mighty bite if threatened.
π· Colour: Dark brown with a white stripe on the abdomen.
π· Size: Males grow up to about 12mm, while females are larger at 18mm.
π· Habitat: They are adaptable to both bush and urban environments. The spiders like to hide beneath bark, rocks, plant litter, in gardens and within tight spaces inside of homes.
π· Locations:: Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa
π· Diet: Insects, such as cockroaches and flies
White Tail Spider Bite Symptoms May Include:
π Mild to moderate pain or discomfort
π Swelling
π Skin irritation or a visible red mark
π Puncture wounds
π Itchiness that can occur immediately or after a few days
π Severe pain
π Nausea, vomiting, headache or feeling unwell (rare}
Here are some tips to keep your family safe from white-tail spider bites:

Check for spiders in dark, damp places.

Seal up any cracks or holes in your home.

Check your bedding and clothing for spiders before you use them.
β
Keep your home clean and free of clutter.

Wear gloves and long sleeves when gardening or doing other activities where you may come into contact with spiders.

Avoid using insect sprays, as these can make spiders more aggressive.
