Attention all Australians! Did you know that your love for shiny new benchtops could be putting you at risk of developing a deadly lung disease known as ?
Silicosis is caused by inhaling silica dust, which is released when cutting, drilling, or grinding materials such as stone, concrete, and engineered stone (commonly used for benchtops). Unfortunately, many workers in the stone industry are not provided with adequate protection, leaving them vulnerable to this debilitating disease.
But it's not just workers who are at risk. Home renovators and DIY enthusiasts who use these materials without proper protection are also in danger of developing silicosis.
