Chris "Pineapple" Hooper

Chris "Pineapple" Hooper Mayoral candidate. Genuine independent. Standing up for local residents and small businesses to hold I was born in Rockhampton in 1952 and I was educated here.

Attending St Joseph’s Primary Wandal and later on Christian Brother’s Rockhampton ( CBC ). I was a member of the High School Cadets and I represented CBC in athletics, swimming and football. I later played Ruby League for Railways and Fitzroy Clubs. I completed grade 12 in 1969 and my first fulltime job was as a Bank Officer with the ANZ Bank East Street. I was transferred in this position to reli

eving staff at Monto, Baralaba, Kilkivan, Paddington, Redcliffe and Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. I then secured a position as a cleaner with Queensland Rail, Rockhampton and went on the be a fireman and engine driver. I began these positions in 1971 and departed this employment in 1988. I worked in these positions at Rockhampton, Alpha, Cloncurry and Blackwater/Bluff. During this time I was successful in gathering together a substantial property portfolio in a partnership. This included a number of residential homes in Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast as well as Commercial properties in the Rockhampton CBD. After leaving Queensland Rail I started the “Funny Farm” a 144 acre rural retreat on the Emu Park road where I was engaged in “Woofing” which involved hosting international back packers and tourists in conjunction with Cap Coast Backpackers in experiencing Australian Bush Life in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. It was during this time I had sea change and started to question the rush and tumble of everyday life and the costs of that associated with demand on the environment and individuals. I was resident at the Funny Farm for over 20 years. At this time I was also engaged in a campaign to save the Rockhampton to Cap Coast Rail line as a much needed community asset. Labor turned this into a White Elephant substantially unused “walking track. Future generations will not thank us for destroying existing rail infrastructure. I was a foundation member of the Rockhampton Youth Shelter Committee starting around 1984 and I was instrumental in the setting up of 2 Community Gardens in Rockhampton. One at Wandal and a second at Armstrong St North Side. I currently run “Haveachat” on East Street. Authorised by Chris Pineapple Hooper

AN APPEAL FOR HELP
Keep Peacebus on the road
“Friends, Peacebus is my far travelling mobile home and campaign support vehicle.
Horn speakers and bamboo poles on its roofracks, crates of banners and flags under its bunk, Peacebus has been on the road for over 25 years journeying for justice, protesting for peace and speaking out for a sustaining Earth.
With Peacebus, I have been able to travel far, organise, bear witness, share, teach and inspire mastery in the arts of protest.
Many are the friends of Peacebus.
Alas, a month ago in the summer heat, on the Hume Highway for the campaign, I cooked the engine and wrote that Hiace off.”
“I reckon I need about $15k to buy another serviceable Hiace and fit i it out as a Peacebus.
A big reach for this old age pensioner.
The kindness of friends is what has always sustained Peacebus and its journey.
Please reach out to me now and donate.
With many thanks,
Graeme Dunstan”

Media release: Challenging the U.S. Alliance in a time of U.S. war preparations

A community SpeakOut about the costs and consequences of the U.S. Alliance will take place

from 6 pm Saturday 22 July 2023
Queen Street Community Hall
29 Queen Street, Yeppoon

This coincides with the day when Exercise Talisman Sabre, the massive U.S. led war rehearsals begin at the Shoalwater Bay Military Training Area and elsewhere in northern Australia.

The Department of Defence boasts that this tenth Talisman Sabre is the biggest yet with over 30,000 troops from eleven different national armies engaged.
"This is no harmless military exercise," says long time peace activist Graeme Dunstan. "It is a rehearsal for war with China!."

Eighty year old Mr Dunstan, a former Duntroon cadet, has been speaking out against U.S. wars since his student days. He was prosecuted for helping disable an Army helicopter during Talisman Sabre 2011, the trial of which became the subject of the David Bradbury movie, War on Trial.

"All wars are folly and tragedy", said Mr. Dunstan. "But a war with China, our largest trading partner and the foundation of our present prosperity, would be a disaster for Australia.”

"Time to speak out!" he said.

The Yeppoon SpeakOut will be an open mike affair, an opportunity for people to speak their minds and share their concerns and feelings about U.S. led wars.
Among the speakers will be:

John Shipton, father of Julian Assange, the former CQU student who is being held on remand in a London maximum security jail for publishing the truth about U.S. war crimes. His fourth year in solitary confinement!

David McBride, the former SAS Major charged for releasing documents that revealed the murderous deeds of Cpl Ben Roberts Smith VC, the former Afghan war hero, now disgraced.

Reference will be drawn to the recently released People's Inquiry into the costs and consequences of Australia’s involvement in US-led wars and the US-Alliance conducted by IPAN, the Independent and Peaceful Australia Network.

Calling out to Julian Assange supporters in Rockhampton. We'll get out the Banana Bike. Its huge... got 7 seats and so needs 14 legs to peddle it.. If you have a couple of good strong or even not so strong legs that you can bring along tomorrow morning. Sat 8th July a bit before 10am to the "Havachat shop" @ 20 East St that will b fantastic. It will be fun and help to raise awareness of Julians plight.

Swiss journalist report - Adani and Waddananggu.

With the war in Ukraine forcing Europe to seek alternatives to Russian fossil fuels, Australia is opening dozens of coal mines – and sacrificing its natural and cultural heritage in the process. In remote areas of Queensland, Aborigines and environmentalists are organising resistance.

Last week around 150 people turned up to celebrate one year of continuous Waddananggu (The Talking) ceremony.

"In what is believed to be a first, these Wangan and Jagalingou traditional owners are using the Queensland Human Rights Act to occupy a mining lease held by Bravus, the Australian arm of Indian mining giant Adani.

And there appears to be little the mine can do about it."

After a series of failed legal challenges and their native title being extinguished, a group of Wangan and Jagalingou traditional owners are using a human rights act to occupy land at Bravus's Carmichael Coal mine in central Queensland.
