Every 2 weeks: test pH and copper, clear the skimmer, check for leaf buildup, and make sure your pump timer has dropped to winter hours (4–6 hrs/day is plenty).

We're not here to scare you. We're here to give you the actual facts, because the pool industry has done a really good job of making saltwater sound like a natural, chemical-free alternative.

It isn't.

Here's the truth about saltwater pools:

❌ MYTH: Saltwater pools don't use chlorine
✅ FACT: Your salt cell converts salt into chlorine. It's a chlorine generator. You're still swimming in chlorine, your pool is just making it on-site.

❌ MYTH: Saltwater is gentler on skin and eyes
✅ FACT: Because chlorine is still present, you still get the same skin dryness, eye irritation and hair damage. The concentration varies but the chemical is identical.

❌ MYTH: Saltwater pools are low maintenance
✅ FACT: Salt cells need regular cleaning, pH drifts more quickly in saltwater, and the cells need replacing every 3–7 years at significant cost.

So what DOES a genuinely low-chlorine pool look like?
