Shortening the sleeves of a suit jacket from the shoulders is one of the difficult and complex alterations you can request. It requires a highly skilled tailor to completely dismantle, recut, and re-sew the jacket’s structure.

Here we have a Christian Dior suit jacket purchased at Harrods in London, the alterations of the jacket was performed by their in-house tailor who meant to be the expert at doing these types of tailoring. The result- distorted proportions, puckering of the armholes and chest area, lapel proportions were thrown off.

Our seamstress reworked the jacket by removing the sleeves entirely, recut the armholes, and reshape the sleeve openings to fit the new opening. The end result was a perfectly tailored jacket.

We then dry cleaned the suit, just in time for the event the very next day 🫶

We are so proud of the result on this cashmere and leather coat. It came to us stained with lipstick and breastmilk, all stains were restored by our talented team.
The leather and canvas trims were proven to be a challenge.

Just like restaurants, great ones use the best ingredients, employ skilled chefs and take the time to perfect their dishes. Many people assume their garments will be handled the same regardless of the dry cleaner, but the reality is that the way a garment is handled and its final appearance will differ greatly between a great and an average dry cleaner.

Meet Mel- our lady of the house, the heart and soul of Laundry Box. If you’ve had a chance to meet her in store you would agree she’s talented, friendliest, hardworking, and most approachable. We are lucky to have her leading the way 🩷

Here are a few fun facts about Mel.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Time manipulation - so many things I think if I could I would like to go back and re live. I loved the time I had when my kids were little and would like to do it all over again. There’s definitely some things I would do differently.

What’s your favourite hobby?
Definitely working on my reef tank. I find it so relaxing just sitting and watching my fish and corals. It amazes me, in particular all the colors and different types of corals and how they all behave in the ecosystem I’ve created-how they’re affected by lighting and water chemistry. When you actually really get into it, it’s so amazing!!

What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend?
Cleaning and feeding my tank on one day, and spending the day cooking (especially when it’s cold and miserable outside) for my family on the other.

What’s one thing you’ve been meaning to try but haven’t yet?
Keeping bees…. During covid I bought a bee hive kit, but haven’t had the time to set it up and get some bees in to make my own honey. I want to have it in an area with a veggie patch, but that will be a while away before we’re ready to do that….one day though…

What’s the most embarrassing song you secretly love to sing along to?
I will unashamedly sing along to any song, whether I know the words or not 🤣. And, unfortunately for the team (and my kids) I don’t necessarily care who’s around. The only embarrassing thing is that I’m not a good singer 🤣
