❤️🚗 BEHIND THE BUSINESS SATURDAY – PART 2
From our first photo together at the zoo to building our own family business! ❤️
Last Saturday, I shared a little about how my journey into the automotive industry began.
But there’s another side to the story, and it involves my wife, Hamidah! 😜
Looking at these old photos brings back so many memories. Our first photo together at the zoo, a friend’s 21st birthday, our early dating days and eventually our wedding. ❤️
Hamidah and I actually met while studying together, long before Hugo’s Mobile Car Detailing existed.
Our first jobs were in retail. We worked for different companies and sometimes even in the same stores.
And here’s the funny part…
Sometimes Hamidah was my manager, and other times I was hers! 😂
But those retail years taught us something we’ve never forgotten — customer service always comes first.
We learned how to listen to customers, understand their needs and treat people with respect. Those lessons are still a big part of how we run Hugo’s today.
Eventually, I moved into childcare, where Hamidah also worked.
Being a male in a predominantly female industry came with its challenges, so I eventually returned to retail.
But I wasn’t happy in my job.
Then one day, a friend from church who worked as a car salesman told me his dealership was looking for someone to wash cars.
My first thought was, “Washing cars isn’t really a career for me!” 😂
But he encouraged me to give it a go. It was a full-time job, so I decided to try it.
Little did I know that one conversation would change the direction of my life! 🚗
Fast-forward to 2023.
Like many families, we’ve faced our own challenges, including struggles with mental health.
Having experienced some of those challenges myself, I understood how difficult things could be when Hamidah was going through a tough time.
I’d always wanted us to work together in the business, so I encouraged her to come and help me.
Let’s just say she wasn’t exactly jumping for joy at the idea of cleaning cars! 😂❤️
But look at us now!
From dating and working together in retail, to getting married, raising a family and now building our own business together.
It hasn’t always been easy. We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’ve learned to support each other, keep going and appreciate the opportunities God has given us. 🙏
And one thing hasn’t changed since our retail days…
