The FG F6 310 ute represents a time when Ford was doing things a little differently. While everyone else was chasing V8s, FPV was busy proving just how much potential the turbocharged Barra had.

Brutally capable, understated and backed by a reputation that’s only grown stronger with time.

FPV FG GT R-SPEC | KINETIC BLUE 💙

There’s no hiding our love for the Blue Oval, and when it comes to the last generations of Australian-built Ford performance cars, the FG GT R-Spec is right up there with the best of them.

By 2012, FPV had already given us the supercharged Miami V8, but the R-Spec took things a step further.

With 335kW and 570Nm on tap, the GT certainly wasn’t lacking grunt. The R-Spec was FPV’s answer to getting more of that power to the ground, introducing revised suspension, wider 275-section rear tyres and launch control.

Just 350 R-Spec sedans were produced, making these a pretty special chapter in the Falcon GT story.

And then there’s the colour. Kinetic Blue, black accents, those distinctive 19-inch wheels and the unmistakable stance of an FG GT. It’s a combination that’s aged incredibly well.

We’ve always had a soft spot for the FPV era. From the early BA and BF models through to the final FG offerings, these cars represented a time when Australian manufacturers were still building big, powerful, rear-wheel-drive V8 sedans with their own identity.

They might not carry the same nostalgia as an original GT Falcon just yet, but give them time. We reckon cars like the R-Spec will only become more appreciated as the years roll on.

They’re not all 10s.

Something we often hear from owners bringing in an older classic that’s looking a little tired is, “This probably isn’t the sort of car you’re used to working on.”

But the reality is, we work on plenty of classics in varying conditions. Not everything that comes through Benzenes is concours quality, freshly restored or even close to perfect.

And that’s part of what we enjoy about what we do.

Over the years, we’ve brought countless classics back to life, each with varying results depending on their condition. But one thing has remained consistent — we’ve always managed to make significant improvements, often surprising the owners with just how well their cars can present.

Case in point, this 1965 AP6 Valiant.

We knew from the outset that it wasn’t going to be perfect, nor was that the objective. But we also knew there was plenty of potential hiding beneath the tired paint and dull brightwork.

With some careful machine polishing, attention to the chrome and brightwork, and an overall detail, we were able to make a considerable difference to how this old Valiant presents.

It still wears its age, and that’s perfectly fine with us.

Sometimes it’s not about chasing perfection. It’s about making the most of what’s already there, preserving the character and giving an old classic a new lease on life.

A little behind-the-scenes action at Benzenes. 🔥

Working on Shane and Tinas stunning Ford Mustang, addressing isolated paint damage on what is otherwise an exceptionally well-presented paint job.

Using a machine polisher and a carefully controlled correction process, we’re refining the affected area to reduce the visible defects while preserving as much of the existing finish as possible.

When the surrounding paintwork is this good, even the smallest imperfections stand out. It’s all about precision, patience and knowing how far to take the correction.

No shortcuts, just attention to detail and a genuine passion for the craft.

1984 DE TOMASO PANTERA GT5 | ITALIAN EXOTIC, FORD HEART 🇮🇹🇦🇺

Every now and then a car comes through the studio that brings together a few of our automotive passions. This one certainly ticks those boxes.

Introduced in 1971, the De Tomaso Pantera was born from a partnership between Italian manufacturer Alejandro De Tomaso and Ford. The idea was simple: combine Italian styling and engineering with the performance of an American V8.

Styled by Tom Tjaarda at Ghia, the Pantera featured a mid-mounted Ford 351 Cleveland V8 and a ZF five-speed transaxle.

Here's where the story gets interesting for us Australians.

After Cleveland V8 production ended in America, Ford Australia continued manufacturing the engine and eventually supplied engines for later Panteras.

Italian exotic looks with an Australian Ford heart. Given our strong passion for both Fords and Italian machinery here at Benzenes, it's a combination we can certainly appreciate.

By 1980, the Pantera had evolved into the more aggressive GT5, with its wide arches, revised aerodynamics and unmistakable rear wing.

This beautifully restored 1984 example presented extremely well, but even restored paintwork can benefit from further refinement.

We carried out a multi-stage paint correction to address surface defects and improve depth and clarity before sealing the finish with our flagship Magnum ceramic coating.

The wheels were removed for a thorough clean, while the interior received a light detail and leather treatment. Rubbers and seals were also treated to complete the package.

From Australian Ford muscle to Italian exotics, automotive diversity has always been a big part of what we do.
