Some of the most meaningful conversations from this week happened after the workshop had finished.

As part of National Reconciliation Week, OCS and Midcity teams from across Australia joined a cultural awareness session led by Noongar artist Buffie Punch, who shared personal stories and perspectives on reconciliation, identity and connection to Country.

The session opened up honest conversations across our teams about history, culture, listening and understanding each other better.

Thank you to Buffie for sharing her experiences so openly, and to Stacey Goodall from All Good Grub for the beautiful Indigenous morning tea 🖤💛❤️

Somewhere in this cookbook is a recipe someone still makes exactly the way their grandmother taught them.

Another was learned through phone calls home after moving countries.

One colleague remembers family members gathered around a table during Ramadan. Another remembers afternoon tea served in bone china cups beside a side gate connecting two family homes.

These are the kinds of stories shared across our business every day – often over lunchrooms, tea breaks and shared meals.

🌏 To mark World Day for Cultural Diversity, colleagues from across OCS Australia and New Zealand have contributed recipes connected to family, migration, celebration, culture and home.

Inside are dishes from more than 80 nationalities represented across our business, each carrying its own memories, traditions and stories.

💬 “Food has a way of bringing people together without needing much explanation.” – Gareth Marriott, Managing Director OCS Australia and New Zealand.

And reading through these pages, you can see exactly what he means.

Thank you to every colleague who shared a small part of their story with all of us. 🧡

For the first few months after arriving in Australia in 2007, Sandeep Chhikara stood at a public payphone with a calling card in his hand, waiting to hear his mother’s voice.

He was 24, more than 10,000 kilometres from home, and living away from his family for the first time.

Nearly 20 years later, Australia is home. He’s built a career across multiple sectors, started a family, and now supports our colleagues as part of the OCS Australia HR team.

As we approach World Day for Cultural Diversity on Thursday, we’ll be sharing stories from colleagues whose experiences of moving countries, starting over, and building lives far from home continue to shape the way people support each other across OCS.

💬 “When you move countries, you never forget how important it is to feel welcomed.” – Sandeep Chhikara

Across our workplaces, many colleagues know what it feels like to arrive somewhere unfamiliar and slowly build a sense of belonging over time.

Nearly 20 years after arriving in Australia alone, that sense of welcome is still something Sandeep hasn’t forgotten.

Most people don’t think about facilities management as they walk into a workplace, hospital, airport or university.

But the way those environments are maintained shapes how people experience them.

Clean, safe and well-maintained spaces help people feel comfortable, confident and able to participate fully in the environments around them. That’s the focus of this year’s World FM Day theme: Cultivating Belonging Through Built Environments.

Behind the scenes, facilities management brings together hundreds of moving parts — cleaning, hygiene, maintenance, compliance and building services — helping create spaces that work for the people using them every day.

💬 “The environments people move through every day affect how they feel in those spaces. When facilities management is done properly, people feel safe, supported and able to focus on what they came to do.” – Elmar Prinsloo

Much of that work happens quietly in the background.

But the experience it creates is felt every day.

Today we’re marking Australia’s own sign language during Auslan Day.

As one of 300 sign languages around the world, it’s unique to us ‘Down Under’ and is used by about 16,000 people.

Today is about recognising the Deaf community and the belonging, connection and opportunity that Auslan allows them.

With over 60 cultures within our OCS Australia and New Zealand operations, our colleagues overcome language barriers every day.
Learning a few words or taking time to translate together doesn’t have to be hard – especially with the help of technology.

It’s here, at this moment of intention, that two of our TRUE values, Respect and Unity, come to life and relationships are built.

Did you know:

👉 Auslan is its own language completely different to spoken English. Signs express concepts rather than singular words.
👉 There are more than 300 different sign languages around the world.
👉 Sign doesn’t only happen with hands. Facial expressions, eye contact and body language are essential in conveying meaning.
👉 Eye contact means connection, while looking away signals the conversation is over.
👉 Technology is bridging barriers. Reach for your notes or messaging apps to converse.

🧡 Protecting people is at the heart of our culture.

We take a broad approach to health and safety: not only protecting colleagues in their role but protecting them as a person too.

Today marks World Day for Safety and Health at Work, with a theme of healthy psychological work environments.

But pressures like stress, burnout, overwhelm and harassment don’t exist in isolation. We carry them with us – at work and at home.

That’s why we’re creating an environment where every colleague feel safe, respected and empowered

We train.

We listen.

We support.

Making people the best they can be starts with keeping them safe and well – physically and mentally.

And that’s a responsibility we all share together.

A huge shout-out to Juliana Chica, Portfolio Manager in our OCS Victoria team, who took part in the Run for the Kids fun run in support of Melbourne's Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal on Sunday.

Juliana completed the challenging 14.4km long course, joining more than 30,000 participants in the event’s 20th year. Together, they helped raise an incredible $1.32 million to fund vital research and equipment for children who need it most.

Juliana said she was proud to support such an important cause - "I really admire and support the important work they do for children and families in the community". She described the day as fantastic with a positive atmosphere, full of energy — "although it was challenging, I enjoyed it immensely".

Well done, Juliana. An inspiring effort for an amazing cause.

On Sunday, we marked International Women’s Day, sharing stories of women across our Australia & New Zealand business.

Today, we’re sharing Julia Yon’s story.

Julia is a Business Development Manager based in Sydney. She moved from performing arts into facilities management and found something familiar – the discipline of preparation, the importance of reading a room, and the value of earning trust over time.

In commercial environments, trust isn’t a slogan. It’s knowing that what’s promised in a proposal will be delivered on site, every day.

As Julia puts it:
💬 “Trust is a currency – and once you earn it, it compounds.”

Her experience reflects this year’s IWD theme, Give to Gain — access instead of gatekeeping, autonomy instead of hierarchy, and leaders who back judgement early.

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, we’ve sat down with women across OCS New Zealand [and 1M] and OCS Australia to hear their stories.

From the early days of their career to where they are now, we’ve discussed the support they’ve had and their passion to pass that forward.

This year’s IWD theme, Give to Gain, sits at the core of our OCS values: Trust. Respect. Unity. Empowerment.

It’s the knowledge that through generosity and collaboration, everyone can win.

This week, those wins are the success of our colleagues.
Stacey Hubac leaves us with a call to action today: give encouragement.

💬 “A small word of support can build someone's confidence in ways you may never fully see.”

Keep an eye out this week as we share these stories and read more below.

Christmas looks different depending on where you’re standing.

For some, it’s time to slow down and be with family. For others, it’s another week of early starts, familiar routines, and quietly keeping important places running as they should.

This year, the season also carries a sense of sadness for many, following last weekend’s tragedy in Sydney. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected.

As the year comes to a close, we hope there’s space to pause – to rest, reset, and spend time with the people who matter most.

To our customers, partners and communities: thank you for the trust you place in our people throughout the year.

However you’re spending your holiday, have a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year 🧡
