Hi fans and air conditioners! I was prompted to write this after cleaning a rental property where the tenants had 2 dogs. From the smell, it was obvious they had spent a lot of time inside (the dogs, that is!). The tenants said they vacuumed on a regular basis, and that their dogs were 'clean' - I scraped my foot across the carpet a few times and they were surprised at the little mound of dog hair that accumulated. I suggested they probably had the wrong type of vacuum cleaner. To successfully remove pet hair from carpet, you need a vacuum cleaner with a TURBO HEAD, or POWER HEAD (one with rotating bristles). The pet hair buries itself into the carpet fibre - a 'normal' vacuum cleaner will only suck up the loose hair/fur, not the stuff stuck in the carpet. It is this embedded hair that also substantially contributes to the 'pet odour'.
