What most people don’t see is the amount of waste created behind the scenes of holiday accomodation: unused food, unnecessary packaging and single-use items designed for convenience, not longevity. That’s why we focus on smarter systems:

✨ Refillable bathroom/kitchen products instead of single-use plastics
✨ Thoughtful stocking to reduce excess and waste, supplying things like oil, salt ect
✨ Behind-the-scenes processes designed to minimise landfill, such as donating unopened food
✨ Quality over quantity means fewer disposables and better choices, supplying quality products guests will want to use

Our goal is simple: to offer accommodation that feels high quality, considerable and comfortable while reducing our environmental footprint.

♻️ Let’s talk about cleaning bottles…

Did you know Australians throw away millions of single-use plastic bottles every year - everything from shampoos to cleaning sprays?

In fact, a recent case study found that Australians purchase & discard around 179 million empty bottles of personal care and household products annually 😳 (Zero Co, 2023).

And here’s the kicker… only about 14% of plastic waste in Australia is kept out of landfill.
The rest? It’s either buried, burned, exported, or ends up polluting our environment (Australia Institute, 2024).

Most cleaning bottles are made from plastic that takes hundreds of years to break down. Even then, they don’t fully disappear - they break into microplastics that end up in our soil, waterways, and even our food.

🌏 The crazy part?
In most cases, it’s not the bottle that’s the problem - it’s the endless cycle of tossing them instead of reusing or refilling.

Imagine if just half of households reused their spray bottles and refilled them instead of throwing them away… we’d keep millions of bottles out of landfill every year.

Noosa Council is developing the From Waste to Resource: Draft Waste Plan 2023-28.

They’ve already done Phase 1 & 2 consultations and gathered feedback – now it’s time for us to understand what’s proposed, and what it means for our community.

Actions to reduce organic waste going to landfill
Emphasis on clear information, public recycling options & protecting our environment
